I could very well be low balling on Pacioretty’s value here. Just a thought mainly. But then again, it’s Bergevin we are talking about.

Yeah no way that happens. 2 bottom 6 guys and a late 2nd? A trade for PIT for Patch would involve Guentzel, Kessel, or Sprong. Depending on who depends how much you add or get back.

You aren't getting Gunz, Kessel or Sprong. You can just put that pipe down.
Patches wants out, you are in no position to deal. You also have no term on his contract. Every player you just listed has term or has rights. It's not even close to fair value for a rental player.
Hags and a 2nd sounds about right to me.

I wouldn't want the trade he proposed as it is a low ball or any of the 3 players that you mentioned as it doesn't address our needs.

Patches does not want out, in fact he has mentioned how he loves Montreal and would prefer to stay there however he understands that hockey is a business. His contract may not have any current term but if a trade is proposed, im sure PIT can speak with him for an extension or a conditional pick can be added. Hags and a 2nd is a low ball offer even if you dont want to admit it, Evander Kane got a 1st, condition 4th and a prospect even though he was a known cancer in the locker room and had lower point totals than Patches. Simon is an alright add on but I dont see him being a major factor as he as yet to prove much at the NHL level.

You want Patches, the conversation starts at Brassard or Maatta in return.

Ive proposed somewhere else a trade of
Patches + ??? in return for Maatta and Brassard
What that ??? im not sure on as the market this year has been difficult but dont be surprised when Patches gets back to shape next year and gets traded for much more than you offered.

That's just it, the Pens couldn't extend him if they wanted to. They don't have the cap space. He's a one and done, nothing but a rental player for a full season. No one is going to give up a ton for that.
You argue from a point like there are rights to the player or he comes with term. He doesn't. His next contract will be way out of their price range. You are better off looking at a team like boston if you want to get a return. You won't get that from the Penguins as he doesn't have the same value from them.

Well if he is worth so much more to other teams...why would Montreal even attempt to trade him to PIT? And again...as a rental, Evander Kane with all his issues got a 1st, conditional 4th and a prospect. Pacioretty is worth more than Kane and will fetch more than him even if its at the deadline.

hahaha no way that gets you Patches. It will be 1st+top prospect to start or value of that. Sprong+1st might do it.

I didn't make the trade. I'm just telling you how they would see it.
As far as Kane, that's not a good comparison. They had the cap space to resign him.
I had said earlier that they are better off trading him to boston for a better deal

no one is trading you a 20 year old player on a low cap hit that they expect really good things from for a guy about to hit 30 and have his cap number explode. It's dumb decisions like that that ruin good teams. Try the edmonton GM on that kind of logic.

Alright then you aren't getting Pacioretty. Some other team will give that up.

maybe and maybe not. Just ask Ottawa on Karlsson. His value is less and less now. You got to do your thing or get off the pot. If you don't move him, his value decreases. When you realize not many people are looking and those that are aren't going to dismantle a team so you can think you got a good deal, then you are in trouble. You will be stuck with a player you would like to trade but can't and then the contract ends and they leave.

For sure, but they aren't going to give Karlsson away for a bunch of depth players and a 2nd. Neither will Patches. He'll get at LEAST a 1st+

from the trade rumors I read, the deal on Karlsson is less than 1/2 of what it use to be.
