time to rebuild, we want Hughes plz

Created by: Will737
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2018
Published: Jul. 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To be realistic, Montreal is not a contender, the team is barely able to make the playoffs if Price and Weber are not injured and if they have a great season. So the best option is to trade for picks and for young prospects. For some players like plekanec Montreal should trade at the deadline to teams who need a defensive centerman. We can also accept big contracts to relief some teams in exchange of draft picks.

Let's hope to have more young talents with all these picks and if we could tank enough to get jack Hughes that would be perfect!

Why not? have you heard of the teams he would like to go? and do you think the trade is even if you consider that patches signs an extension?

I really wish Montreal will take this track. They have to rebuild and patches has to go for his best and for montreal best. Maybe some trades are not 100% equal but overall they are fair, great job!

The ideal return for Pacioretty is no longer a center. Straight up for a younger defensive partner for Weber should be the target.

We aren't competing this year.
Likely aren't competing next year.

If none of our dozen or so center prospects is ready to make the leap at that point, our scouting has failed as badly as our GM, and we won't be competing for several more years.

A partner for Weber is something we should be able to solve now, so that we have a solid defensive core behind our bevy of younger forwards.

Trade Pacioretty for an up and coming LHD, and take on a cap hit to facilitate the transaction, adding a couple of picks in the process.

I agree with you that would be a great idea to trade patches for a ld prospect. I don't know if I would fix this problem this year because I think we should tank, but a LD is one of the biggest problem we have. Maybe it could be fix with the few 1 st round picks in 2019.

Good trade with Arizona, with the extension I think it's fair and considering their recent moves they really want to take a step forward and make the playoffs.

Just not sure about the Chicago trade, they won't make the playoffs again next year (imo) and Lindgren value isn't equal to a top 10 pick.

I agree, maybe chicago’s pick could be top 10 protected?

An up and coming LD would be someone with a little more experience than Mete. A couple of seasons with Weber would solidify him, so when our next round of prospects hits, he's a dependable top pairing guy.

Someone like Larsson or Peterssen from the ducks perhaps. We could take Henrique back in the deal, giving us a temporary center, or Cogliano or Eaves for a longer term option if they plan to re-sign Henrique.
Kesler might be their preferred option, but he has a NMC. If we were taking on his contract, I'd expect more to be included. Perhaps Morand.
