Nowhere close on Parayko. He's going to cost Marner or Nylander. Bracco looks okay, but a 1st and him aren't anywhere remotely close to enough for Parayko, a young D good enough to be #1. The Panarin one is also pretty far off, but given that he's an expiring UFA, I'm assuming he's being treated as a rental.

Both of these trades are hilariously unfair to the other teams. Also there would be no way to afford to pay those guys and keep Marner and Nylander.

It amazes me that folks think you can get these guys without giving up anything. I'm not saying Toronto would pursue these guys, but these are obviously done by leafs fans

Putting aside the question of fairness, and I agree they're slanted in Toronto's direction, you have $5.5M in cap space going into 2019 (but you're one man short on the roster, so realistically, $4.5M) with Matthews and Marner and Kapanen to re-sign, with only Hainsey (presumably), Carrick and Leivo (total $5.2M) coming off the books. Matthews alone is going to eat that up.

After this season the following people need contracts.

Gardiner
Hainsey
Matthews
Marner
Kapanen

Hainsey and Gardiner are gone, without a doubt. Matthews and Marner will be resigned for star money. And Kapanen may have to get traded. The year after the team will have a lot of extra cap space and I wouldn't be surprised if Kapanen signs a super team friendly deal next season just so he can get a better one the next season when the Leafs have additional space. Or they trade him for cheaper, depth guys and or draft picks to keep the cupboards stocked.

Toronto will be operating on a cycle of moving depth guys from the farm up to the main squad when the older guys want too much money. If Kapanen scores 30 goals next year, you trade him for as much as you can get and rotate whoever is the best forward on the Marlies. Filling out the depth spots with ELC's will give the Leafs all sorts of flexibility.

And I keep seeing guys claiming that Gardiner is a cornerstone. I'm going back to putting his $4M or whatever on the free-up side of my analysis. Thanks.

Those people are Leaf Homers who over value him big time. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's crap, he's a very good hockey player, he's just flawed. Why I say he goes and why I would have traded him last year and definitely would want to trade him this year, is because he's going walk this summer anyways. He'll demand over 6 million on a 7 year term for his next contract. He definitely isn't worth that kind of money since I think Dermott progressing and progression from Borgman or Rosen will more than make up for the loss of Gardiner at a much lower cap hit as well.

The only cornerstones on Defence are Reilly and maybe Liljegren but we don't know what he'll be yet.
