Liljegren isn't NHL ready in 2018/19, but Tanev may not be either. Leafs aren't trading their # 1 prospect for a part time two year rental.

Did you just say Tanev might not be NHL ready?

Health reasons...as usual. He was out at the end of last year.

Liljegren is the exact player Toronto is apparently desperate for. A right shot defenceman who can play top line minutes. He may not be that yet but he sure looks like he will be soon enough. Trading him for an older defensive defenceman makes zero sense.

Before you get all puffy chested over this slight directed at Tanev, just hear me out. I think Tanev is an extremely valuable defenceman. I don't want to take away from what he is, and I would love to see Toronto get him. With that being said, I'll once again point out that Liljegren is exactly what the Leafs need! He may not be ready for the NHL yet but it won't be long before he is and his upside is superior to Tanev's. So its going to be a different deal to get him out of Vancouver. Think of an area that the Canucks need improvement on and picks. Calle Rosen is a 24 year old offensive defenceman who played amazing in the Marlies run to the post season. He could be part of a deal that'll include pics. Start with a 2nd and depending on how much Salary you want to retain, you can get Toronto to add more to the deal.
