Max Pacioretty signed for 5 years at 5.1M AAV?? Nice one hahaha! Look at E.Kane and JVR contracts for a starting point in the negociations. He'll (sadly) end up with more than both players. My guess is 7 years at 7.5M AAV.

Agreed - Montreal and LA had a deal worked out at the draft and it fell through because LA and Pacioretty couldn't agree to an extension.

I forgot the mention but it would be a sign and trade and they do what toronto does with Kessel and retain about 15% and the get a young scorer in returm

This still does not make sense. You would likely be looking at 30-35% retention for your math to work. Taking Haglin as the cap dump notwithstanding, aside from spong, what incentive is there to make this trade from mtl perspective. On top of that you want mtl to eat 2.5M for 5years. I cant imagine you would be alright with signing JG to 6Mx5 then retaining 2M in return for MTL 3rd, 5th, Hudon, and Alzner.
