MAPLE LEAFS 2018-19

Created by: LeafedIn
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2018
Published: Jul. 7, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Since the Leafs are open to taking on large expiring contracts this year, it would behoove them to try and get as many draft picks as they can to either use for future trades. Or replenish the cupboards for there minor league affiliates.

Calgary needs a backup goalie who is a good pro in the locker room. Winnipeg needs more left-handed defenceman. Whereas Toronto could use a big right-handed defenseman to eat up minutes and balance the backend pairs. Both teams get an expiring contract along with draft picks.

Dallas has a lot of right-handed defensemen and clearly wants to get rid of Spezza's contract. Thus, a trade for an already expiring - yet cap friendly contract in Hainsey may warrant a high draft pick in return for the Leafs.

Leafs defence is worse without Hainsey. It's cap disastrous next year taking Spezza's contract due to delayed payment of Perf Bonuses.

Enough with the Myers for Gardiner nonsense. The fanbase doesn't understand how good Gardiner is but Dubas does. Myers for Carrick and a mid pick...maybe.

And Nylander is in tough to make more than 6 per.

Who gives a crap about performance bonuses when you are winning? Tyler Myers is a younger better version of Hainsey. If anything the defence would be status quo if not slightly better.

Second Call...
"Hey, Jason!"
"Yeah..."
"Want the opportunity to play with some of the best young forwards in the league & potentially move up the line should an injury occur?"
"Well... I don't know?"
"Ok, last chance at your age to make a legit run for a Stanely Cup. Tick, Tock"

Who said anything about not liking Gardiner? I would like to see him stay in the lineup. But I find it hard to believe that they can afford to re-sign him. I'd rather sees the Leafs balance their d-core pairings and get something in return (i.e. Draft Picks), or lose him à la JVR, Bozak, Komarov.

Myers is in the last year of his contact as well and makes 1.75M more already. They're not getting anything in return if he walks too.
I believe they'll sign Gardiner this summer before Nylander.

"You guys know I can play the wing too right?"
"We're a little crowded already on the right side"
"Tavares. Left side. Book the flight home."

Very astute with regards to Myers contract! No, duh he is in his final year with the Jets. That's why he is ionclided in this trade concept. Winnipeg is in a better position to sign Gardiner long term seeing that they have more cap space. It's called leverage! The Leafs help a team cut costs (i.e. 1.75M) to parlay into a higher draft pick. Both teams win.

Lol... You really think that Gardiner signs an extension before Nylander? That's a pipe dream

Yeah! I heard that most centerman in the NHL can usually play the wing. What's your point? #weirdreply. My trade concept on the other hand with Dallas is all about taking on expiring contract to garner picks and/or prospects.

Performance Bonuses do count against the cap, it's just a matter of when then are paid. Yea I would think all GMs who are near the cap give a crap about performances bonuses and their cap situation.
