Zaitsev for what’s likely to be a Top 10 pick in 2019?

Chayka isnt doing that. ARI has plenty of useful players on their blue line as is. This wouldn’t improve them and it costs a lot.

Cap dumps don’t fetch top 10 picks and good prospects.

He's hardly a good prospect and it won't be a top 10 pick, not if Raanta is healthy at the start of the season. They are a good team, and then they get gifted Galchenyuk

ARI has not improved enough to make the playoffs in the West. So that automatically puts them in the Top 15 picks. And they aren’t better than most of the playoff bubble teams in the West, so their 1st rounder will be a Top 10 pick. Pretty straightforward arithmetic here.

Arizona play in a weaker division, Edmonton Calgary and Anahiem struggled last season, Anahiem in the first round shows that. The kings are still getting older,. Vancouver.... do I need to say more? That leaves Vegas and San Jose as the only majorly competitive teams going into this season. If Arizona start well, they could have home ice in the first round. Pretty simple arithmetic there

Because of his 7 year contract and him not playing up to it last year, Zaitsevs trade value is extremely low right now. If he doesn’t rebound this year theres the risk he could turn into a bad contract that no one wants. Dvorak and a 1st is outrageous.

Nylander is a six/seven-season cost-controlled, top-line player. Faulk is up after next season.

I could see the Leafs trading Nylander in a Jones-Johansen sort of deal though. But there we're looking at Hamilton or Pesce -- top 4 guys with term.

Faulk is a top 4 guy. He just needs the contract and Toronto would be able to get him at a discount

Very true. If he reboundss and is a amazing D man, you look like a genius in arizona. Playing with OEL in all probability helps. You can't assume one way or the other until after this upcoming season.

If he’s turns into an amazing dman it would make sense but that’s a big gamble for Arizona.

I don't think so. An expansion team made the final, Washington won the cup. This year has been back to front. Next season Zaitzev could earn every penny of that contract and it's just as likely as him putting up the same numbers he did this season.

Dvorak is easily a better player than Zaitsev, this trade is horribly one sided.

Dvorak has shown little- no quality in the NHL yet. Zaitzev has shown he can be a top pair D man in a very critical city. I deemed this to be fair value but thank you for the opinion

The Arizona trade is very bad, Arizona would not give up a good/young talented NHLer and what would be a top 10 draft pick for a player who had a very subpar season and just signed a 7 year extension. As mentioned in some of the other comments Zaitzev's trade value is very low right now given the season he just had, most teams in the league would not even pick up the phone if the Leafs called looking for them to take Zaitzev.

Zaitsev's possession metric are disgusting, he's also not a shut down player and yet only got 5 goals and 8 assists. Meanwhile Dvorak who is only 22 is coming off a 37 point season and has nice upside. What does Zaitsev even offer to Arizona who already has Hjalmarsson and Demers on the right side? Meanwhile, trading Dvorak leaves a hole in Arizona's offense.

Edit: factor in the fact that that pick may be top 10, and you have a terrible trade.

I don't think the Leafs management would trust that that's the case. Faulk would probably buy an internal RHD replacement (Liljegren) a bit of time, but they wouldn't trade for him expecting a long term solution. So, Nylander would be out.
