Tampa Deal UPDATED

Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2018
Published: Jul. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So I took a lot of flack for the last trade... Guess I figured teams would be more reluctant to take on a rental who is a one year wonder at 26. He could end up being a star or the last year could've just been a flash in the pan. I think no matter what teams will be thinking this. However I updated the trade. I took on a lesser valuable defenceman in FULL and gave back a 3rd round pick and one of our top 3 prospects. That's as fair as it gets for a guy with his background on a year deal. We will probably have to wait to resign him to see how he does. We'll have the cap room. If he puts up 25 goals again he'll get 5-7 mill I'm sure.. This deal is about big picture for Tampa. They want Karlsson. I believe they also work out a deal to trade Callahan to NYR in this scenario. He's not a great fit in Buffalo. So Tampa clears Callahan and Couburn's salaries and gets good assets from the Sabres for a player that will walk at the end of the season in Tampa despite what some think.

They will not trade Gourde in a cap dump. They will more than likely trade an unproven prospect because they’re in win now. Sheesh

They will lose him for nothing at the end of the year.... They don't need him to be successful. Teams aren't stupid they know Tampa wants one of arguably the top 3 defenceman in the NHL! This assures they can do that. It's more plausible than you think... I don't think it will happen however because our GM doesn't have the moxie for it. He seems to think our LW depth as it is will be an improvement. I disagree.

The trade is fair as long as Tampa is all in for Karlson. The more I hear is that the asking price is too high and the salary hit on an extension too expensive for the future of the team. I think Tampa remains pat for 2018.

Gourde is a great story undrafted, undersized, rookie at 26 and scores 65 points. He plays well defensively and has no fear driving to the net or taking on any size opponent. He is naturally a center but can play any forward position.

    Nice try thanks for amending.

Dude... did you not read anything I said on your last poorly thought upon post? Even with signing Karlsson to an 11 million deal... the players they will be trading will leave them with 11.15m. That’s not even accounting for how much the cap will rise. That’s AFTER the Karlsson contract too.

I read your condescending post.. They could possibly have the money for him but they have a bunch of other top end prospects they'll need to pay. I see Gourde leaving on his free will for the option to branch out. Take it for what you want. I really don't care.

Your thought process is broken. Don’t ever try to be a GM
