Wanted..top pair RHD...pt1 (trade w/Jets)

Created by: SuprDave45
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2018
Published: Jul. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I admire from afar, and don't really stare because I keep expecting the Jets to seal the deal. But days pass, and still no digits..is there a chance? OK, I'll flirt!

Looking for a potential D partner for Brady Skjei, something McDonagh never had. Has to fit the "age group" for the Rangers rebuild,

The Jets get some needed C depth back from Stastny leaving, a couple of stabs at replacing Trouba in the lineup (if not on the first pair) and a 2nd as a cherry on top.

? Not sure why your pointing out something to me that someone else told you? lol

Shatt, while on the elite level offensively, is not a top pair defender in his own zone, anyone who says that is mistaken. That all being said, elite offensive d men get paid a lot of money, so his contract is on par if not on the cheap (Keith Yandle makes 6.3m!). Karlsson isn't exactly an elite defender either, and he's set to break the bank!

Anyway, what does any of that have to do with the price of tea in china?

A lot of things are funny, like how David Backus makes 6m and David Krejci makes 7.25m, both with NMC's....who gave them those contracts ?? =)

...but that still doesn't change Keith Yandle's or Shatty's contracts so we are like two digressions deep...

Sooooo...we gonna talk about Trouba now?

    Yeeesh...

That's getting steep, switch the 2nd to a 1st, but then I'd pull Pionk from the deal.

ill give ya backes contract was terrible, cause it was but no one uttered a single word at krejci got his contract. he deserved it. honestly I like namestikov but I like trouba a whole lot better. maybe if Winnipeg feels they cant resign wheeler next offseason the move on it but I dont think that's the case.

On the surface it looks a lot for a 30+ year old guy, even when he was a 60 pt player. But centers are being overpaid left and right, so I guess that's what it took to keep him. Maybe he bounces back next year.

I was happy to pick him up, simply because he was needed if the PP was going to do anything. Again, the offensive side of his game is elite, he's top 10 ppg over the last 5 seasons, but his play in the d zone leaves something to be desired. Regardless, he and Mika made the PP respectable for the Rangers again, so I would argue he was worth the money. Where else would they have gotten a PPQB for just money?

That being said, he wasn't going to fill holes that the organization failed to address over the previous two seasons. I could see last year's result coming for several years now (ever since the loss to Tampa in the playoffs in 14/15, the writing was on the wall), so the missing piece he definitely was not. Any Ranger fan that didn't see that pays too much attention to Sam Rosen.
