Bottoming out in 2018-19 so we can hopefully progress in 2019- 20. (Part 1)

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 13, 2018
Published: Jul. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Correction to the Seabrook trade, in place of retaining 1,875,000, we would retain 2,875,000 to actually get to him bring a 4million dollar player in Florida.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Trade deadline deal, Rutta is an upgrade on Bortuzzo as your bottom 3rd pairing Dman. Rutta is on a 1yr contact and is a very serviceable as plug/ depth guy. A rental to a playoff team similar to how we moved Kempny to WSH last year, we know how that worked out.

Price might be a bit off, but I figure we atleast try to get a future asset back for Rutta.
2.
CHI
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Gustafsson, Erik
  2. Seabrook, Brent ($1,875,000 retained)
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Seabrook can be a leader in the locker room and a great mentor to have around a very young panther group. In this trade you get two guys, 1 a fringe NHLer and 1 a proven guy with 1000+ games under his belt.

Along with that you upgrade a third to a second round pick. I’m not sure how Florida fans would feel about this, but Seabrook is not as bad as people make him out to be. At 4million for the foreseeable future he is a good guy to have around.
3.
CHI
  1. Bourque, Simon
  2. 2019 1st round pick (WPG)
  3. 2019 4th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
I just want a Bourque TBH has nothing to do with the actual trade. He might as well be a placeholder for a B+ prospect.
WPG
  1. Anisimov, Artem
Additional Details:
Trade made at the 2019 deadline.
WPG gets a good 3rd line center to effectively replace Stastny. The difference now is that Anisimov is controlled for a couple years and is a very good net possession guy. I believe Anisimov fits into a contender in WPG better than he fits into Chicago at the moment.

Not sure that’s worth a 1 Star, how about instead of making a throw away statement about the trade you suggest how to make it better.

Hawks aren't trading Seabrook. Multiple people not only in hockey ops have stated this. He will retire a Hawk. Other two trades are way too lopsided to the hawks. No chance STL or WIN accept those offers. Rutta brings back a low 3rd round at best and AA nothing more than a 2nd at best. He's not cost controlled, he's an expensive 3rd line center

i agree with Sharp_10..

Instead of or add like Beaudin or Jokijarhu to the seabrook deal and maybe that deal gets done then. might have to add another second rounder.

drop the the 1st and the 4th for anisimov and just do the player and a second and that will do it.

i think the rutta deal is about right i think but it would be a conditional 3rd. that turns into a 2nd if they make the WCF or resign him next season. one of the two.

i think the seabrook deal is too soon to ditch. we wil have to wait til its 3 or less years to ditch that. even tho he will most likely be worse then and we will have to add more sweeteners then that will probably hurt even more at that point. or the salary cap by then will be 85 mil and it will be not that big of an issue.

hope and pray for that lol

Thank you for that, I’ll take that into consideration in future posts. Check out the other part to this post. I think the team looks damn good in 2019-2020 if we can find a way to move Seabrook and get lucky enough to win the lottery this year.

1) Florida is trying to contend soon, so taking on 5 million of garbage cap hit for the next 6 years would be catastrophic.
2) Seabrook has a full NMC for the next 4 seasons, and he's not going to waive it to go to some bottomfeeder team, and no contending team is going to take him.
3) even IF he does choose to waive, the way that contract is structured is going to scare off teams that might take on bad contracts for assets. teams like ARI, CAR, OTT etc are all about saving actual money, and they can't really do that with this contract. it's way too bonus heavy for them to want to deal with, even when he inevitably goes on LTIR.
4) Even IF he does waive his NMC, and IF they can find a team to take his contract, the cost for Chicago is going to have to be obscene. Any GM worthy of the position is going to make Bowman bleed like a stuck pig. It's probably going to be a guy like Debrincat or Jokiharu AND at least one pick in the first three rounds. Bowman has absolutely no leverage in that situation. He'll either pony up or (more likely) he'll just sit on that awful contract until it expires.

That contract is impossible to move. Maybe things change in 4 years when the NMC becomes an partial NTC and he's likely on LTIR, but that's a long way away.

In the description I said I made a mistake, and that we would be retaining an extra million making Seabrook a 4million dollar player for them. They are on record saying they would like a experienced D man in the locker room, Dale Tallon drafted Seabrook, taxes are lower in Florida, more games in Florida means more money for Seabrook, Imnot seeing a negative for him other than moving his family from cold cold Chicago to sunny beach Florida. You have a point however, this contract will be much harder to move.

Even if they want a vet on the back end, Seabrook is still a terrible option. There are probably 50+ players that could fill that spot, none of whom would have the cap or the term that Seabrook does. Hell even Phaneuf would be a better option.

Seabrook is not as bad as people make him out to be. He is still a serviceable player and could work on his speed problems to get better.
