Karlsson - What I think it would take

Created by: Talec
Team: 2018-19 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 13, 2018
Published: Jul. 15, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So I thought about what it might take to get Karlsson and I really think this could be enough.

Ottawa:
Montour (Easily the biggest piece, top 4 RHD only 24)
Ritchie (LW Power Forward, currently top 9 but since he's only 22 he still has tons of upside and could end up in the top 6....plus he is a monster (imho top 10 in the league in strength))
Larsson (about as close as you can be to NHL ready and project to a top 4 roll as a LHD)
2-1st Round picks (helps the rebuild and gives this trade a lot more value.)

Duck:
KARLSSON (no need to put anything here, it freakin' Karlsson)

Why Ottawa might do this: to be honest none of these guys will be as high end as Karlsson, because Karlsson is about as elite as you can get. What Ottawa does get is 2-3 NHL players this year all 24-and under that will be around long enough for Ottawa to rebuild. Plus they get 2 first round picks the next two years to help as well.

Why Anaheim does this: It's Karlsson, an elite #1 defenseman. This seriously puts our team back in this to win in the next 2-3 years for the rest of the Perry/Getzlaf deals.

So Long Term Outlook:
So next year we Sign our Guys to the following:
Karlsson: 7x11mil(same money as Doughty)
Gibson: 5x5mil (the Freddy Andersen deal)
Silfverberg: 6x4.5mil (well earned for a good 2 way player)
Henrique 6x5mil (so if Kesler plays then we let Henrique go, if Kesler is out then we resign him)

So if the Cap is 82 mil next year with these signings I believe that puts us at either 75 Mil or 73 Mil for next year giving us 9-7 Mil in cap to fill out the rest of our roster

I really like the logical thinking here.

I like it as well, however, it would never happen. If the reports are true about the bonus money, the Ducks are no different with being salary strapped team. There is no way they could give out a bonus like the JT or Doughty (10mil + on July 1st).

Very True, and I 100% agree with you that Ducks getting Karlsson is unrealistic. I just wanted to see if it was possible cap wise and what I thought would be a "fair" trade.

Yea this is probably what it would take, but do you really think the ducks would ever make this? Personally think Kase and Montour (along with rakell) are the future of the ducks.

I love Kase and would not trade him unless someone ridiculously overpays for him. Montour I'm more iffy with and would be willing to include him on a trade if another top 4 RHD was coming back and more. If not, sign Montour to a 4-6 year 4-5 Mil dollar contract and lets see how our prospects help this team. Either way I'll be there opening night and cheering my @$$ off. Go DUCKS grin
