I think we should still go for Celebrini and the top 6 forwards of the future will be set up. We can look at free agency and our other 1st and 2nd round picks to address RD.

So many players are locked up on rookie deals and bridge deals for the next 2-3 years there's no reason not to spend it in the meantime if we continue on this trajectory.

Overreacting to the hot start
Does anyone know what the plan is for Luneau this year? It doesn't make sense to me why they are keeping him on the roster if he isn't going to play. He didn't look quite ready when we have seen him (understandable he's only 19). We can't have him in SD because of the Q, so just send him back to the Q to get playing time and bring him to ANA or SD next year. Am I missing something?

I think 3 rookies at once is a little much and drysdale is barely not a rookie. I'm fine with him being in SD right now. I'd assume we see him by the end of the year

Not sure that we would. Before Gudas absolutely, but at this point I think we are leaving the third RD spot open for someone like Helleson or one of the other young guys.

Why We Wont Be Trading for William Nylander
Agreed overall, but Zegras should be the winger, not McT. I also think its safe to say Zell, Helleson, and Gaucher will be in the lineup by this time.

Nylander out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Arbitration window, sure. Hawks have Kurashev still out there too so the hawks can still buy him out as well. I guess it's more so just the value of what it would take to get it done. Hawks management has shown (through action...not just us on capfriendly) they'll accept a 2nd straight up for $2,333,333 in expense over 2 years. Murray as a buyout would be ~$4M over 2 years. I know TOR doesn't have a 2nd to send...so yes it'll be the 1st, BUT I doubt it's a 2nd rounder going back. more likely a late 3rd.</div></div>
The cost of buyout would be $687,500 first year and $2mil second year. Ottawa eats a third of that in addition since they are retaining 25%. However, since Ottawa already has 3 contracts being bought out this year is that why you say they aren't able to buy him out? I haven't seen that before and not sure what the rule is.

Love these lines.
I think the contracts go as follows:
Zegras: High 7mil
Terry: Low 7mil
Drysdale: Around 2mil (bridge deal)
Dostal: Around 1mil (Bridge Deal)
I agree the older vet contracts are about a year too long and we'll end up having to trade away some old contracts ang give up picks for it. But if that's the price we have to pay it's worth it for the young core to properly develop.

McTavish shouldnt be lower than 2C imo. I'd move Strome out to the wing and make lunderstrom 3C. 4C is interesting, could be one of the young guys or could be Carrick.
At defense they were using Mintyukov and LaCombe together during rookie camp. It's possible that we see that pairing as the third line at some point.

What do you think would be better? I think starting on the wing with two fellow Swedes, one being a long time Vet, would be a great way to start and get him acclimated.

Revisiting past ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>He's right shot and a defensive specialist, it was an off the wall idea from way back. Would it really be worse than another season of Shattenkirk?
LaCombe is the only one who is maybe ready, Helleson and the others are going to need more time to develop in the AHL.
Right side top 4 D is a long term need, we have no problems signing long term there. Drysdale and Fowler historically have gotten completely caved in, we need a defensively responsible partner to clear the crease out on that pairing.
Mints has the size, but his defensive abilities have been noted as suspect for a while now, he needs a lot of work in his own zone. I think we're going to need a defensive partner for Drysdale long term, and I'm not sure how fast Honda will be ready.</div></div>
I agree that they aren't ready right now, but you've filled 4/6 starting spots for the next 5 years (assuming fowler and drysdale are extended). Meanwhile we have Mintyukov, LaCombe, Zellweger, Helleson, Luneau, Hinds, and others. Not saying that we don't need the guys right now, but it doesn't seem like the right move to not leave any space open in the future.

I think we see Lacombe-Helleson as the 3rd line of D. All for signing 1-2 veteran defenseman UFAs but not more than that or there won't be opportunities for the young guys to get some ice time. Hesitant to even sign more than 1 UFA to more than 2 years, we have too many young defenseman coming up and not enough space. Benoit and Vaaks can fills the roles this year. Love that Vaaks is already on IR in this roster though lol.
I think the wing is more of an issue because we don't have as many or as talented prospects there. Who else could the ducks target? I've wanted Domi but not sure if he would even consider us or what his price would be.

Love the offensive moves for wingers, not sure if the money is right, would prefer to keep Henrique at least until the trade deadline, not against extending him too.
Don't think we need more than 1 signing on defense. Need to leave room for some of the young guys to get in some playing time (Lacombe, Zellwegger, Helleson, Mintyukov, etc.)
Big fan of this one though.

Not a fan of Comtois contract but love everything else on the signings.
McT is too good to be on the third line, throw him on the line with Bedard to reunite them and shift down the LWs. Don't re-sign Comtois imo.
Plug McScrub is a very underrated player. Might be the signing of the offseason.

2023 Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Helleson *might* be ready to go. Other than LaCombe having a few games at end of season, none of the LHD guys have played any pro hockey yet, so the assumption is they will all spend at least a year in the AHL.
We also have to keep in mind that Drysdale is still only 20 years old, and lost a year to develop with the injury, he needs a veteran hand to guide him. Benoit is still fairly green, Vaakainen is also young and not very NHL experienced.</div></div>
Totally understand and fair point. I just think we shouldn't fill out our defense with no room for those guys to get called up and start having some exposure. Helleson especially has spent long enough in San Diego.
