Yeah, he is, and more, you hope the guy taken at 7OA this year becomes as good as Trevor Zegras is.

Whats their plan
I’d be all over that Pesce deal honestly— 2 years is perfect
Fowler Zellweger & LaCombe Gudas as the other pairs
No reason to sign Mantha imo just play a youngster there

I agree it might be time to buy, but I don't think old man Kane is the answer. I think we'd need to go get a true #1 RHD, like pulling off a Dougie Hamilton type deal.
I think we are still sellers this TDL. With the pending UFAs we have and an outright overfull forward roster, we cant really add unless we subtract first.
That said, sellers may not be the right word, traders or exchangers maybe. Secondly, I highly doubt there is any point in the year we don't have someone on IR.

I don’t see Fowler being moved at all — Zellweger would be the big part of a trade for a big time RWer
I’d lines I’d run on the back end next season :
Fowler Gudas
Mintyukov Helleson
LaCombe Drysdale
You could switch Helleson and Drysdale as needed imo

Overreacting to the hot start
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heinzey</b></div><div>Does anyone know what the plan is for Luneau this year? It doesn't make sense to me why they are keeping him on the roster if he isn't going to play. He didn't look quite ready when we have seen him (understandable he's only 19). We can't have him in SD because of the Q, so just send him back to the Q to get playing time and bring him to ANA or SD next year. Am I missing something?</div></div>
Assigned him to San Diego on a conditioning stint this morning. My guess is that he is down there as long as the rules allow it and then goes back to the Q. Im not overly concerned with him staying with the team for a couple weeks but I agree too much longer and it just seems kinda odd

My hot take: Zellweger is moved
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeautifulIdiot</b></div><div>If I were you, I would try to get Anderson, I think that the price would be a little bit above what VAN paid for Hronek due to the fact that he has some term, CGY fans will say that you dont have a shot at getting him but if CGY looks to burn it to the ground then he would be one piece that could really hep to jumpstart the rebuild. I would imagine that they would want a piece like Zellweger, a centre like Lundestrom, and a first. Now that may sound like a lot but you are getting a difference maker to be your #2-4 through the value of his contract.</div></div>
I don’t think we target a RHD in a big trade like that, I think it would be a similar package for a top end RWer

i agree that 3 rookies is to much for one defense (Chicago has an 2 AHL LD of Vlasic and Kaiser, and Korchinski is 19

First game analysis
Cronin is a breath of fresh air behind the bench, the guys kept their foot on the gas until the bitter end, they were out there playing like they had something to prove and were proud of the logo on their chest.
Mintyukov apparently was given homework on how to be effective at both ends of the ice, and let me tell you, the kid understood the assignment. Yeah, he made some mistakes tonight, he's a rookie, but to be able to show up game one lauded as a offensive dynamic and pull off THAT level of two way game. This kid is going to be a <strong>PROBLEM</strong> for the Pacific division.
Max Jones was doing his work in the crease. I really believe if he can start to capitalize, he's got potential to move up to 2nd line as a complimentary piece.
McTavish also appears to have taken to Cronins tutelage. Won a ton of faceoffs tonight and even looked fairly competent when he didn't have his stick.
Gibby had a really stellar game. Stopped 35/38 shots on goal against the defending cup champs, damn solid performance.
Yeah, we've growing pains to come, there were errors tonight that need to get cleaned up, but this <strong><em>felt</em></strong> different. This felt like a team of guys who <em>wanted</em> to be out there. At the very least, they are putting an entertaining product on the ice this year.

What is Verbeek Doing?
Looks like everyone's under contract, no doubt some feathers were ruffled in the negotiations, but both the kids are under three years deals, that's a lot of time for water to pass under the bridge. Now Verbeek has to make this team competitive in three years time to make sure everyone wants to stay.

Finishing cap moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heinzey</b></div><div>Not sure that we would. Before Gudas absolutely, but at this point I think we are leaving the third RD spot open for someone like Helleson or one of the other young guys.</div></div>
Players get injured. Adding Myers gives ANA only 3 NHL caliber RD. Helleson will get a shot.
That said, he didn’t show out at all in the AHL last year, I don’t see any reason to assume he’s ready for a full time NHL role. Especially when we could get a towering Myers for basically nothing, and could likely get something back for him at the deadline retained (after which Helleson can enjoy all the NHL time he wants)
Also, if you assume Lacombe plays NHL, and one of Zell or Minty gets time, they could both use a big, veteran, defensive RD partner for each of them to pair with for their development. Pairing them with Helleson will be tough

Nylander out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heinzey</b></div><div>The cost of buyout would be $687,500 first year and $2mil second year. Ottawa eats a third of that in addition since they are retaining 25%. However, since Ottawa already has 3 contracts being bought out this year is that why you say they aren't able to buy him out? I haven't seen that before and not sure what the rule is.</div></div>
You're looking at cap hit. His salary is higher. Look at the buyout cost in the link below $2,666,666. Over 2 years...$5,333,333...apply the retention since OTT will pay 25%. ~$4,000,000. And they likely can buy him out since Kurashev is in arbitration.

I think the contracts go as follows:
Zegras: High 7mil
Terry: Low 7mil
Drysdale: Around 2mil (bridge deal)
Dostal: Around 1mil (Bridge Deal)
I agree the older vet contracts are about a year too long and we'll end up having to trade away some old contracts ang give up picks for it. But if that's the price we have to pay it's worth it for the young core to properly develop.</div></div>
Gudas contract is up same year as Fowler when Zellweger/Minty ELCs could be up. That’s on purpose. Cap is gonna rise significantly so even tho Killorn’s contract is a little long it’ll be fine.
Based on this ACGM there’s ~10M in cap space now after getting to 23 players with Henrique and Silfverberg coming off the books for next year. The cap won’t be an issue until they add that 10M player.

I think that you and my esteemed friend <a href="/users/Heinzey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Heinzey</a> are in the right ballpark.
I'm guessing McTavish - Strome - Killorn and Vatrano - Lundestrom - Jones.
I'd like to add a veteran defenseman on each side.
Thanks for taking an interest in our team!

In a vacuum I’d rather have Boeser out of the two players, but Strome can be a very capable 3C with some talent on his wings. Shaves a bit of cap space as well.
