I think the cost to dump Murray is a 1st and not going to include a 2nd going back (he is owed 6 million and can't be bought out). Best case you get a 3rd or 4th back. Best bet is probably to buy him out.

Does nothing to address the defence. Leafs top 6 already is outstanding, this is not an improvement.

Arbitration window, sure. Hawks have Kurashev still out there too so the hawks can still buy him out as well. I guess it's more so just the value of what it would take to get it done. Hawks management has shown (through action...not just us on capfriendly) they'll accept a 2nd straight up for $2,333,333 in expense over 2 years. Murray as a buyout would be ~$4M over 2 years. I know TOR doesn't have a 2nd to send...so yes it'll be the 1st, BUT I doubt it's a 2nd rounder going back. more likely a late 3rd.

The usual non thought how can Florida take on a 3.5m increase in cap. Do the Leafs really want to believe Knight is NHL ready this season?

The cost of buyout would be $687,500 first year and $2mil second year. Ottawa eats a third of that in addition since they are retaining 25%. However, since Ottawa already has 3 contracts being bought out this year is that why you say they aren't able to buy him out? I haven't seen that before and not sure what the rule is.

I should have been clearer....Murray can not be bought out by the Hawks. Only the Leafs can buy him out at this point. Hawks can buyout Mrazek though which would bring the bet cost of acquiring Murray down to 5ish million....still more like a 1st.

Good, stop trying to send him to Chicago.

It makes sense though, it's pretty clear the Hawks don't want to tank with Bedard. Having a goalie that doesn't suck is wise.

But that is where you are wrong. They still want to be a bottom 5 team next season. They already have 4 goalies under contract.

All unproven or terrible. Murray would definitely be your best goalie and not good enough to win too much. It would make a lot of sense.

You're looking at cap hit. His salary is higher. Look at the buyout cost in the link below $2,666,666. Over 2 years...$5,333,333...apply the retention since OTT will pay 25%. ~$4,000,000. And they likely can buy him out since Kurashev is in arbitration.

Unproven works better for us than broken down busted. We need those goalies to get ice time so that hopefully one of those prospects develops into a goalie. Actually playing Murray would be awful prospect development. Gotta keep Arvid/Jaxston/Drew playing. Mrazek can sit for all I care.

Then why would Chicago want Murray? He sucks.

He in fact does not suck. He just hasn't been healthy for long enough for the goons on this site to understand.

Toronto should keep him then since you say he's good and Toronto is trying to win.

I wouldn't really be opposed to it but Treliving sort of backed himself into a corner. He has to dump Murray.
