Potential Trade Deadline Targets To Consider
I don't see a scenario where the RW trade Kane. He signed with the Red Wings and turned down multi-year deals from other teams. He hand picked his destination, and he is made it known he doesn't want to be traveling from team to team to team to finish his career.
I think the leadership that Foligno is providing the Hawks has been greatly appreciated. Only way the Hawks trade him are if he specifically asks to be moved.

Congrats on destroying the rebuild and turning the Hawks into a middle of the pack team. You also have no money to sign Bedard. WTG

I think the funniest part of this is you think Bedard is playing 3rd line center.

Reaves has negative value. 2 5th's not enough to use up 1 of 2 retention slots for Hawks.

Hawks aren't in a position to be trading 1st round picks unless they are trading up in draft.

Laine has his issues, but you can't stack up a bunch of 3rd line / 4th line / AHL players and equal Laine. Terrible offer. I apologize to Blue Jackets fans on behalf of Blackhawks fans.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Definitely wouldn't get futures from CHI for that package. But, I understand the need.</div></div>
I was assuming futures was Future Considerations (nothing). If that is the deal though I'd rather the Caps kick in an extra 2nd round pick and remove retention from Kuznetsov. Hawks will have the space, and the extra draft pick would be more appealing.

Is this possible
I don't think there is any scenario that has the Hawks retaining on Jones. It is just too many years to commit to. The team is not trying to compete right now so he is serving his duty as a cap hit to keep the team above the salary floor, and a mentor to the young LD the Hawks have on the team and in AHL right now.
The only way I see them retaining would be in several years. Less time retaining, and only if his skills diminish/they need the cap space. But remember the cap should start going up as well.

Potential Next Year with Extensions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>The only way I see this deal happening is if Chicago has a 2nd deal lined up to flip Bobrovsky to another team (Toronto, Edmonton, Carolina, L.A.).
So Florida sends Bob ($4m retained) and a 2nd pick to Chicago for FC.
Chicago sends Bob (50% retained) to a third team for a 2nd round pick.
At the end of the day the Hawks walk away with 2 x 2nd round picks for retaining $3m for the last two years of Bobrovsky’s contract.</div></div>
Only other way I would think they would be interested is if Soderblom is terrible this year and shows he is not even capable of bridging the gap to the other goalie prospects. 2 years becomes a good stop gap, but still gonna need more than just a 2nd for Hawks to take on that cap. They can sign a free agent stopgap for half that amount.

I thought about a 2nd, but I figured 3rd+ is more likely. IE 3rd plus later round pick or something like that. Obviously if he performs well then we can look at 2nd.

Expansion Franchise
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>Wolf is exempt I believe based on last rules</div></div>
I believe he would require protection based on this: Expansion draft professional seasons use the waivers professional season definition: 11 NHL games are required for players aged 18 and 19, <strong>1 professional game in any pro-league (while signed to an NHL contract) for any player aged 20 or older</strong>
Also I think the Blackhawks as currently constructed would protect 8FD - Hall, Kurashev, Reichel, Raddysh, Jones, Murphy, Kaiser, Vlasic.
This would leave available: Athanasiou, Donato, Entwistle, R. Johnson, Katchouk, Phillips among other minor leaguers
They would need to find a Goalie and Defenseman to expose. If one of Kurashev or Raddysh were traded they'd probably protect Phillips.

What would it take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Feelers4Ehlers</b></div><div>Thanks for the insight to the Hawks. I wasn't sure what they had in their system for defensemen prospects. I thought Stanley would give them a young big defensemen that has played enough NHL games to get them to next year. Stanley is on a 1 year deal.
I very much agree about the Schmidt contract. I also figured the Hawks could be able to take on his full contract and also give veteran leadership to whatever prospects they have on defense. Kind of like what Perry and Foligno provide to the forwards.</div></div>
Right idea, but on the left side they have prospects Korchinski, Vlassic, Kaiser. With several other LD prospects that could play this season or next.
As far as veteran leadership. They have Seth Jones and Connor Murphy to cover that. With Tinordi and Zaitsev filling out the rest of the NHL team. I don't see the Hawks using assets to pay for "veteran leadership" this season or next. Especially not on someone like Schmidt would be cost assets AND money. If there are roster holes they are better filled in free agency where it only costs them money.

Hawks decline. Schmidt has negative value with that contract. Stanley plays LD which is where the Hawks are stacked with NHL-ready prospects.
