If Lou called Davidson with that offer this early in the morning, Kyle would probably advise him that morning drinking is a clear indication of a serious problem.

Hawks obviously decline that Reichel proposal. But they would accept that trade for JGP, so that's something...

Really think it’s obvious. Holmstrom was the better player last year

Holmstrom obviously had the better season, but I doubt CHI would be willing to punt on Reichel unless they were getting a 1st, and even that is a stretch.

I'm not sure that's the point though. Do you give up on a prospect that you've been developing so early on? The Hawks are in a place (2nd to last) where they need to find out what they have. I'd be really upset if the Hawks started to trade away their prospects without really giving them a chance. You can't excel as an organization without developing players.

It isn’t that really bad of an offer for Reichel

If that's the case, then why are the Islanders downgrading for "one more run"?

Would fit our system better

Reichel came into this season having put on 10 lbs, and being specifically asked to step right into a 2nd line 2-way center NHL role, which he had never really played before. They were specifically focusing on and trying to develop his off puck and defensive play for a large portion of the 23-24 season. When things weren't working and they finally decided to pull the rug and move him back to wing, his confidence was shot. They pushed it as long as they could before sending him down to the AHL to get his confidence up and find his game again. So, there is a difference between having a "bad" season, and having a developmental season.

Holmstrom had the luxury of being on a significantly better team with better players, in a set role, and being able to just go out and play his game. Although, the Isles have had their struggles and hardships this season, Reichel was obviously in a much trickier and tougher situation.

I believe with another strong showing in the AHL playoffs, a good summer of training and rest, and settling into a winger role from the start next season, it will quickly become obvious that Reichel is the better and more desirable player in comparison to Holmstrom, and I think you know that, too. If y'all want to move Homstrom, I believe there is a price at which CHI might have interest, but it is very unlikely CHI does anything like this. Reichel fits CHI's system just fine, they are just a young developing team who ran some experiments that didn't work out. I wouldn't at all be surprised if CHI moved Reichel, but I doubt it would be for so little.

If we are making judgements on players abilities based off of one season, your correct. Holmstrom was the better player this season. But if you look at the entire body of work of both guys since they turned pro, I'd offer that Reichel has been the better player.

So to me, yes, it's obvious. Especially with that pick going to the Isles as well. Reichel was very good over the final month of the season after going to Rockford for a reboot. The Hawks TOTALLY mishandled Reichel early in the season by putting him at center. Terrible decision. Messed w/ Reichel's head and his confidence. Reichel has far more upside than Holmstrom in my opinion. And the Hawks have no reason or incentive to trade him for a player who is at best a lateral move.
