Can’t understand why you would pay to unload McGinn when the Ducks are projected to have $11m in cap space (based on the team presented above).

Just make it Lee, Pageau and the 2024 1st (18 OV) and the Hawks would probably seriously consider it.

So is the idea here that Chicago gets Schmaltz if they take Kerfoot’s contract as well? If so, then I think they definitely do this.

Off season
Glass is a low cost gamble, so perhaps the Hawks do it. I’m just not sure at this point he brings much more then guys like Anderson, Entwistle and Raddysh who can all be brought back at about half the cap hit of Glass.

Teams are still going want to see him back on the ice and in a “hockey environment” before giving up assets for him.

24 - 25 Season
The Hawks already had Maata once and couldn’t get rid of him quick enough, they sure as hell aren’t paying to bring him back now.
Additionally, LHD is arguably the deepest position in the organization, so Maata doesn’t even fill a need.

2 Years From Now - The Kids Will be Alright
I think it all comes down to whether or not the Hawks need to take on a contract to reach the cap floor.
Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator places the cost of moving Mikheyev’s remaining contract (2 x $4.75m per) at a late 1st round pick.
If the Hawks need the contract to get to the cap floor then the 2nd round pick would probably be enough inducement to get them to take Mikheyev. If they don’t need the contract then I could see Chicago holding out for a 1st round pick.

I would easily give up the 5th for Jeannot to get him for the coming season. It gives you a year to decide if he is a fit long term and if he is a leg up on other teams in negotiating a longer term contract. It also takes some of the body guard burden off of Foligno
Chances of the 5th rounder ending up being anything of substance are slim to none, small price to pay for someone you know can play in the league.

Can’t see the Hawks offering a 34 year old Stamkos 3 x $10m and I doubt he wants to go to a rebuilding team.
Reinhart is going to get his money from a competitor.
Skjei being a LHD removes him from being of interest to the Hawks, they are loaded with young, promising players at that position.
Patty Kane is gone, people need to just accept it.
Other then that it is good!

Honestly if I’m the Hawks I steer clear of Laine until it is apparent he has overcome whatever off ice issues he is dealing with.

Hawks would/should do that trade in a heartbeat but I can’t see the Bolts making that offer after everything they gave up to acquire Jeannot.

need more talent
If the Hawks strike out on their FA targets and need to take on a contract to reach the cap floor, then this draft compensation for taking on Lee’s contract may get it done.
If the Hawks are fine cap wise, then if I’m Davidson I would be holding out for a 1st round pick. Lee turns 34 this summer, with two years remaining at $7m per and the drop in production this season… man they could be paying him a lot for very little on the ice. I would want the real pay off in my back pocket in the form of a 1st round pick.

I agree with what you are saying but with the amount cap space the Hawks have available it would make more sense for Davidson just to swallow the full cap hit and send nothing back in return. Good old future considerations on the move again.

Not a chance any one of the other teams accept those proposals.
Tampa and Winnipeg are not giving up 1st round picks even with retention for one season of your aging players.
Wahlstrom and a 3rd is no where close to enough for taking on two seasons of 33 year old Lee and his diminishing value and $7m cap hit… that transaction starts with a 1st round pick going to Chicago along with him.

This whole proposed scenario has nothing to do with Tavares actually going to Chicago, it is about paper transactions carried out to free up cap space for the Leafs AND they get to sign Tavares back as a FA at a much more friendly cap hit.
