Realistic 24-25
As others have stated, I don’t see the Hawks moving back in the 1st round, perhaps instead of the Tampa 1st round pick (20 OV), Chicago sends Montreal their own (Chicago’s) 2nd round pick (34 OV).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>However much I may personally agree with you, that isn't exactly true. From the way KD was talking, he doesn't seem so keen on handing Soderblom the backup job. And if he is going to make him fight for it, that probably means he is bringing in another goalie, because Stauber and Commesso aren't likely to be ready next year. Stauber is honestly probably just an AHL level stop gap. His games last season in the NHL were a fluke. He is ok, but he isn't THAT good.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>klassic</b></div><div>I agree this could be a possibility. And it is only 1 year for Forsberg.</div></div>
I would actually be ok with them bringing in another veteran goalie to pair up with Mrazek but a 4th round pick for Forsberg and his $2.75m cap hit wouldn’t be enough which is part of the reason I would decline.
I would actually prefer they swing for a homerun and take Campbell from Edmonton as long as he comes with a 1st and high level prospect. Hopefully he rebounds and finds his game again and you end up with two solid veterans which provides the Hawks with organizational depth and trade option flexibility.

That would be a no for Chicago. They resigned Mrazek for two more seasons, no need for another goalie.

So Chicago helps Detroit free up cap space so they can go out and sign all of those players by eating 3 x $5.625m on Copp, their FA signing mistake from two summmers ago, all for the benefit of moving up 1/2 a round and two minor leaguers… I think the Hawks laugh and hang up.

Does these work
Chicago needs Murphy and Hall as veteran leaders for next season unless other moves are made leading up to the draft and during FA to make them expendable.
To be honest the Hawks can probably get and equal or even better return at the TDL without having to take Jarnkrok’s contract back.

If Maatta was a RHD perhaps Chicago would make this deal but he’s not. The Hawks are loaded with young LHD and they aren’t going to block the road with average veteran d-man.

If Sheary only had one year remaining perhaps the Hawks do this but I just don’t see them eating two seasons on a player who really provides nothing they don’t already have in the organization for a mid round pick.

Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator values moving Skinnner’s remaining 3 x $9m at the 6th pick of the 1st round… I suggest reviewing your offer and adjust accordingly.
With the current proposal the Hawks easily decline.

So the Hawks are going to bring back the same roster as last season with the only additions being Clutterbuck; not sure why; and Tanev; not sure why he would sign with a rebuilding team. Not too likely.
As far as Campbell goes, with 3 x $5m remaining he costs the Oilers a 1st round pick + to move. Even if the Hawks buy him out it will cost them $9min actual $$$.

The Leafs will need to add a 2nd round pick to Kampf to get Chicago to accept, the Leafs in return get FC.

tampa
Well I am the anomaly in Hawks fandom when it comes to Jeannot, I would gladly give up Marcel x 2 and a 3rd round pick for him.
I can’t see the Hawks resigning Tinordi so there is no other physical presence on the team once you get past Foligno… and please don’t mention Murphy. They will need a couple of guys who make other teams pause and think about taking liberties with the young core they are building.
Marcel is 5th round pick who had a very pedestrian first professional season split the AHL/ECHL. A 3rd round pick is a lottery ticket. Jeannot has proven he can play and contribute as a physical presence while chipping in occasionally with offence.
If it doesn’t work out you will be able to recoup the draft pick at next years TDL. If it does you extend Jeannot before he reaches FA.
Having said all that I can’t see Tampa giving him up for that package.

Hawks decline, why burn one of your 50 contracts on a 24 year old guy who has 150 + NHL games under his belt and only 30 points and he is coming off a season with a much better team where he put up 1 point in 28? No thanks.

For the same reason you are trying to dump Kampf, Chicago will not take him for free… he is not worth the contract the Leafs signed him to. Three more season at $2.4m per requires a 2nd pick as incentive for ANYONE to take him.
Also, Guentzel, Tanev and Walker are not signing for that little. Domi may take your offer because of his attachment to the Leafs but it will probably require more. Kane will probably get a multi year offer for that price or more.
Tavares and Marner are not waiving their NMCs.
Other then that you are bang on!

I totally agree with <a href="/users/exo2769" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@exo2769</a>, Davidson has been pretty consistent with his ask for cap dumps. Additionally, $3.25m is a lot to eat for a guy who offers next to no offence, the Hawks
are already loaded with guys who can’t score to save their lives.

And there is the daily Kampf to Chicago trade.
Once again, there may be some team willing to give the Leafs something for Kampf… I highly doubt it… I am pretty sure however it won’t be Chicago, had him once and let him walk. If you want the Hawks to eat the remaining 3 x $2.4m per on Kampf’s deal then the Leafs would have to offer a 2nd round pick with him and get nothing but FC in return.

Hawks decline, their dishwasher is more valuable than Reaves and probably skates as well.
Leafs should probably just buy him out but if they insist on trading Reaves, they need to send Chicago a 3rd pick as well.

Marner Scenario 3
It’s embarrassing how many Leafs fans think Timmins actually has positive value. He is a depth guy, # 7 or 8 d-man at best on most teams, waiver wire material. He was acquired for a minor league forward and at the time the knock was Timmins can’t stay healthy and he is horrible defensively…. the same is still true but now he is worth a 4th round pick. 🤦♂️

Threaten to waive JT til he waves
The actual $$ owed and cap space are two very different parts of the equation and both have to be considered and dealt with. How many teams are there that can actually absorb the $13m proposed to be sent to Chicago in the scenario above? Not many.
If you go to Puckpedia and calculate the cost to move $13m in cap space it estimates the value as the 16th pick in the 1st round. Since the Leafs pick is later then that and the limited market they would be working with, a 1st round pick and quality prospect is very reasonable I’m my opinion.
I am considering Holmberg as the cost of moving the 2nd year of Jarnkrok’s $2.1m contract.
Now as someone who lives in the Toronto area, I watch the Leafs all the time and I can confidently say, Tavares’s play has dropped off significantly, he is no longer a point per game player and was often a non factor in games this season. You can expect his play to diminish even further next season with his lack of foot speed and age.
Additionally, what value does bringing Tavares to Chicago for one season provide? They are still not going to be competitive next season and you have now used up a significant portion of cap space that could be directed towards more impactful long-term assets. Leadership? Hmm… one playoff series win in his time in Toronto with a very talented team.
In my opinion Tavares either comes with significant assets for the future or some other team can be charitable towards the Leafs.

retool is due
The Hawks already have a forward group lacking in size, on top that they have smaller, skilled prospects like Kantserov, Nazar, Smith and Lardis coming through the system. They definitely need size and grit up front and would probably pass on Robertson… the 3rd round pick is a very reasonable ask though.

Threaten to waive JT til he waves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Actually, as long as Tavaras waives (not likely) and the trade happens after July 1 and Toronto pays him his $7m signing bonus, Hawks would probably be happy to take Tavaras. Only costs the Hawks $900k in actual salary for JT. Well worth taking on the $11m cap hit which wouldn't get used otherwise anyway.</div></div>
The Hawks would still be foolish to let the Leafs out of salary cap hell without extracting some decent draft capital for taking on over $13m in cap space.
Add a 1st round pick and either Cowan or Minten.
