A Power Forward For Bedard
Sorry Stan, but you input re: the Hawks is no longer welcome...
This would be a pretty disappointing off season in terms of moves. I guess Joshua and Tanev make the Hawks marginally better. Those two trades don't move the needle towards improvement.
Glad your not the GM any longer!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JK74</b></div><div>Hronek is good. Like really good and he fits a need in Chicago. The thing is that Mikheyev is a cap dump so it takes draft capital or prospects to move him. Oliver Moore was a dream come true for Chicago when he was still on the board with Tampa's pick last draft. He's going nowhere. Tampa's pick this year is another top 20 and will net another top prospect. I don't see the value here for Chicago considering where they're at right now. Yes, Hronek is worth a package like that from a team ready to win now but Chicago's window is not wide open yet.</div></div>
Honestly, Hronek is riding the coat tails of guys like Hughes, Petey, Miller, and Boeser. I like him, he is a good player, but he isn't THIS good. Also, I wouldn't exactly call him a need, either. Maybe a lot of people don't realize it, but hockey fans and scouts are gushing about Moore and teams are wishing they didn't pass on him right about now. If that draft were today, he would more than likely go in the top 10.
What CHI should do, if they are looking for a player like him, is wait until they have most of their pieces in place, then try to find a deal like VAN did when they traded for him, not wait for players like him to pop and then overpay for them. That is something perennial contenders do when they are sick of falling short in the playoffs in recent years. CHI would probably end up squandering most of his prime years, anyway.

Good luck getting Pesce to take that deal, even if he is coming off an injury

The retention alone would cost the Sens a 2nd. Still gotta pay for Murphy after that. A 2nd might get him without retention. Add to that the Hawks aren't looking to move Murphy. Moving him creates a hole both on the ice and in the room for a team that wants to get better this season. With retention, it's a 1st or the Hawks just pass.

I know he’s had an off year, but Murphy is still a top 4 defensive dman. Getting that for 2 years @ $2.2 a year (and the hawks needing to retain) will likely cost a 1st round pick. See the McCabe trade with Toronto a couple years ago for comparison

It's not that, it's understanding the value to the Hawks and knowing he's not on the market. If a team wants to pry him away, it's going to take more. Maybe at next season's TDL or a year from this summer, but right now, it's going to take (2) 2nds or a 2nd a good prospect to get him with retention based on on insider reports that the Hawks are not shopping him and have no interest in trading him.

not enough, especially with retention. With retention (2) 2nds. He's a very good locker room guy, works extremely hard off the ice, and good role model. Other teams may not value that as much but a rebuilding team does

It's simple math. Hawks keep Moore, the 1st and then have about 12m to sign UFAs instead of taking on Mikheyev, and the newly signed Hronek.

Hawks decline. Don't see them trading Moore for a RD who's probably getting $7m plus but doesn't really fit what the Hawks want on their blue line. Hronek is a good player. Not a fit for the Hawks though - especially at that price.

If Hawks completely strike out in free agency, they might have to make a trade like this but they want to get better. Iafallo had 27 pts in 82 games which means they would be getting another bottom 6 guy that could possibly be a middle 6 guy if things go well. Hawks already have guys like that in the system.

Thank you for engaging with that trade! Of all the things here, that’s my pipe dream. Played for Roy in QMJHL.

CHI is not taking on Burky's contract for a 2nd, and they definitely aren't sending Anderson back. I would rather re-sign Anderson and bet on him. $5.5 x 3 years will be more expensive to move. I doubt CHI would have any interest in MacDonald, either.

I would actually prefer they swing for a homerun and take Campbell from Edmonton as long as he comes with a 1st and high level prospect. Hopefully he rebounds and finds his game again and you end up with two solid veterans which provides the Hawks with organizational depth and trade option flexibility.</div></div>
I don't think Edmonton is gonna pay that to move him. They are better off just buying him out.

True, that shouldn't be enough to get CHI's help with cap issues. Like <a href="/users/klassic" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@klassic</a> said, though, I don't think EDM will pay to move Campbell. But, if they want to, then CHI should definitely be in on it. Maybe with the pressure off on a team that isn't expected to contend in CHI, he can find his groove again.
