Crap the bed next year... things looking up starting 2019-20

Created by: Davey40
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2018
Published: Jul. 17, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Love Z but this year will be his last. LTIR for him with career ending back injury. Krowall gone. Ericsson bought out.
This year will yield a top 5 pick talent, to add veleno, berggren, mcisaac, lindstrom coming in the next few years to kids all in the lineup and the rebuild is off and running. Like Kenny H says u need vets so with all the cap space I choose to sign 2 vets. Simmonds will be 30 with this deal... a perennial 20 goal scorer but adds abrasive dimension like Abby that the wings lack and will be a new identity to go with the kids skill. Myers will be 29 years old with this deal but will add size and skill to a smaller yet more mobile and younger D core. Both r overpayments I realize but UFA s get overpaid and wings will have 3-5 players on ELC going forward every year to balance this.. Plus reviewing Philly and Jets caps, likely they r available.

Isn't that how the Wings got in cap problems by offering long term deals to aging players? Maybe it's just best to hold out an get the player you really want instead of that Myers deal. Hometown boy Trouba might be a UFA in 2020, maybe he wants to be a Wing

Id pass on simmonds, it took him a while to get to his offensive peak and i can see him hitting a wall early with his type of game. Myers ill take any day of the week. Hes a legit top pair dman.

I see it just the opposite. If they were looking to pay for a forward and could not land Artemi Panarin I would not mind adding Wayne Simmonds as he could prove to be a vey good mentor to the Red Wings promising crop of wingers. Additionally his addition would not block any of those forwards from being on the roster.

The same cannot be said about Tyler Myers. While he is a good defenseman, he has never really lived up to his potential when he was drafted and his playing style is not the type that ages gracefully so he would be a bigger albatross contract wise than any other contract the Wings have signed to the roster.

yeah we do have the opposite opinion. I think myers has been just great in Winnipeg and if he was anywhere else he would get a bit more recognition. he isn't in that hedman burns class but hes played well enough to be put along side guys like mcdonagh or vlasik. I dont need him to get anything past his usual 30 pts but be that rock on the blue line. still I dont love the contract here id rather pay him like 7.5 over 5 years
