Panarin has more trade value than any other rental player not named Karlsson who has been talked about. 70-80 point threats in this league are very rare and even as a rental player they are going to bring back a big return. I don't see Columbus wanting Skinner as the headliner of the deal unless an extension is part of the deal. Even then I think Carolina would have to add.

Not bad although I don't think CBJ will want Rask and I think it would take a 1st plus Skinner...both being 1 year rentals and both including extensions as part of the deal. Highly doubt Panarin and Skinner both agree to go to Car and CBJ respectively. Both are 3rd market teams.

That said, how are you going to resign Aho, Panarin, Teravainen, Ferland, Williams, Martinook, McGinn, Fleury and a backup goalie or if Mrazek works out all next year? Panarin, Aho and Teravainen alone will command $18M minimum. Cap will go up likely $2M so you'll have $16M in space for all the above mentioned players....can't do it.

Very True^.. I should have stated that I wasnt really looking at the future for this one, more just looking at the value.

Not that I think this trade will happen, agree that Carolina probably needs to add to make it happen, but I think if it did happen CAR could afford it long-term for sure.

Williams won't be re-signed most likely, can let go of Ferland/Martinook/McGinn if it means having money available for Panerin/Aho/TT. If the Tampa trade happened for sake of this argument and Johnson was on the books, next year they'd have about 20-22M less than they have this year, for a total cap space of roughly 35M, plus whatever the cap will increase next year, let's call it a total of 38M.

Panerin/Aho/TT get 18-20M of that, so you still have about 18-20M to play with to round out your bottom 5 forwards, 6th d and a backup goalie. That's an average of 2-3M per player which you could easily find vet UFAs or fill some of the guys you let go w/ your young guys in the minors.

If the Tampa trade didn't happen then you have Faulk replacing that money that is going to Tyler. You would also lose Williams. You're not going to fill 7 or 8 slots with $1M players, but let's be conservative and say those slots can all be filled for $15M. You then have $20M committed to TT, Aho and Breadman...that's $35M total and there will be $38M available so could work but it would be tight.

Now if they can get rid of darling, assuming he performs like he did last year, and use his money for a starting goalie then they have something, but with Darling on the roster and that cap hit and him not being a starting goalie, the situation with the cap in this scenario could blow out of the water quick. Car could've traded Darling back to Chicago, with retaining a little bit of money, for Chicago's backup Anton Forsberg and a 2nd round pick if Faulk was included. Would have made a lot of sense for Car to dump darling's contract and give up Faulk to do it since Faulk is good as gone anyway.
