Why would the Jets ever make that deal.
If it was reversed Berg would make it in a heartbeat...
That is why they are where they are!

No one is taking Weber. If you seriously want to get rid of him, go Weber for Lucic with the Oilers and get prepared to give up an extra something.

Why not though? It seems that at the very point Trouba becomes an UFA he'll be leaving the Jets because he wants more money. With the salary retention, Weber will have cap hit of $5,5 million (same as Trouba), and he is clinched to a contract for many years. Also his actual salary is lowering over time, so in my opinion, it's not so far-fetched idea. Trouba will get more money in MTL since they have no problem paying out, and Jets get a very capable D for a long time.

Don't think so. Weber can actually play (he just have to get healthy), and his actual salary is going lower over time.

Shea Weber is 32. The cap just rose 6%. So assuming the cap rises about 6% give or take 1 or 2% which will likely be accurate given that Bettman has been decent at growing the revenue of this league. Do you seriously believe Shea Weber will defy every NHL player to come before him and not depreciate by more than 6% of his production and value per year over the next 7 years? Currently Weber commands a shade under 10% of the salary cap. At age 41 he will command at least 6% of the salary cap. Even with retained he will command a number that is at least higher than 4% of the salary cap.

Normally nasty contracts are referred to as Albatrosses. Weber is the Hindenburg.

which before his latest medical set back held weight.
right now no one will touch weber until minimum 1 full season after his injury so they can see if his play is effected

Ray Whitney hit a career high in 06-07 as 15th season in the NHL. You always get outliers for every trend and statistic. Case in point Wheels. But generally you can show a good reason for outliers being the way they are, it's pretty rarely random, and very often can be logically explained. Wheels' late bloom, for example can be explained by him playing on the power play as the primary facilitator with three of the highest shooting percentage players in the NHL. More than half of his points come on the power play. He's good, an incredible captain, and I was pissed that he didn't win the Messier, but he's not good enough for the Hart buzz that he generated.

Ray Whitney's a little before my time, back when statistics were not as well recorded. I would be surprised if I could see his linemate's numbers and PDO and not give you a similar explanation.
