Let's ease up on trading Appleton. The guy was the best rookie in the AHL last year, plays center, and is our only good prospect that shoots right handed. A 1RHD is good for a 2C, and we have more expandable contracts than Applesauce to alleviate any perceived inequalities. Sami Niku and Josh Morrissey both project as elite LHDs who are going to be staples for years for us. That leaves two very good D prospects in Stanley and Samberg, with only room for one of them to get the spot that affords him appropriate ice time. I think in terms of value either of those prospects would square that deal in place of applesauce.

I'd be fine with what you suggest, but with Scheif, Trocheck, and Roslovic where does Appleton fit? Furthermore I'm not ready to crown him a grade A prospect yet.... he wouldn't be the first player like him to be great in the ahl and do nothing in the "show"....also Trocheck showed last year he has the goods to be a #1 center on most teams.

The Moose currently use him as a RW/C due to Petan, and Roslovic both being studs. Personally I thought he would be the natural replacement to Armia at 3RW the day we traded Armia. I don't know if you went to development camp at the iceplex, but it was the same week of the Armia trade so fans got to see Appleton in action against our other prospects. He is hands down our best forward prospect. (Vesa was injured through the week so maybe he's better when he's at 100) His skating is smooth, his release is extremely smooth, and he is really sneaky in how he creates space for himself to get open and get his shot off. (Very similar to what Scheifele does to get his shot off.)

I'd like to remind all the florida fans of the Jones/Johanson trade.....1st pairing D, is worth a 2nd line C...... except in that trade, Johanson was a 1st line C (not 5'10").... ...and Trouba is better than Jones when the trade happened......

Chevy also hangs up if this trade is offered. I know that each franchises fan base always values their own players higher than others...so I admit I may have that same bias. However, I agree with the quote above.....1st pairing RD is worth more than a 2C - especially to a franchise that is already pretty set at the C position.

I mean this in the most endearing way possible....but you guys are all nuts. Trocheck isn't a normal 2nd line C...he put up 31 goals and 75 points last year and would be a #1 C on 1/2 the teams in the league....with that said he is undersized, his advanced stats are average (though his zone starts are defensive, which is somewhat odd, but clearly he's a 2 way player). He'd fit in nicely on a line with Laine and has a great contract.
For reference, and as I've said before this trade is very similar to the Jones/Johanson trade....for reference, Johansen put up 71 points, but is much bigger and had better advanced metrics....more a prototypical 1st line C. Mark Pysyk is interesting, former 1st rounder.....but in looking at his stats he shouldn't costs Appleton....probably someone like Spacek....or, if they are giving up on Petan. Lastly, Trouba is a fringe 1st pairing dman....For example, on Florida last year he wasn't better than either Yandle or Eckblad he'd be their 3rd best Dman....at least right now....which is why a 2nd rounder is also given up...In hindsight I'd change the trade to Trouba, Petan, and a 2nd for Trocheck, and Pysyk.

Lots of interesting dialogue a few last comments

1. yes...i agree Trochek could be a 1C on many teams and perhaps Im undervaluing him in this trade. He wouldn't be a 1C on the Jets, and yes, he would fit nicely with our wingers.
2. I argue you are doing the same for Trouba....he is a legit 1st pairing D league wide. You can always find a team with a better RD which would bump him down to a 2nd pairing (Ekblad, Karlsson, Doughty, etc). His advanced stats are great and his counting stats are good considering he is PK specialist at this point and hasn't got PP time due to presence of Buff and Myers.
