An alternative to my Panarin trade (CBJ/MTL)

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2018

Description
Once again, Panarin is NEVER coming to MN, he wouldn't re-sign here. This is purely for fun.

Earlier I made this exact trade for Panarin. This time, I've traded Brodin to MTL instead of BOS. The plus side of this is that we wouldn't have to take on Backes' huge cap hit, but the downside is that almost all of our young prospects are up in the NHL, which could possibly hinder their development.
Trades

Even if hypothetically, Jackets would never trade Nutivarra.

MTL is also very high on Brodin. Our beat writer has said in past years they've always wanted him. If you recall two years ago MTL was close to trading Galchenyuk for him but for whatever reason the trade never came to fruition. You also already have Weber and Petry as RHD, but I know Weber will be out for some time this next season. He's still signed to 8 more years, though.

I see where you're coming from, but Brodin would slot at 1LD, a position of huge need for MTL. He's also still young (he just turned 25), so he'd be a mainstay when your rebuild is completed. Brodin can also play on the right side, so if you really needed someone to play there Brodin could be that guy.

Edit: It was actually last season when we traded Scandella, my mistake.

Not even if Spurgeon is joining your blue line? Nutivaara is good, but Spurgeon is undeniably better. You also already have Murray and Werenski on your left side, so losing Nutivaara wouldn't hurt too terribly.

I think I've already had this discussion before with you... but Brodin is not a first pairing LD, and Mete would be above him in the lineup. Brodin is a defensive dman, and would be a huge improvement over guys like Alzner, Benn, Schlemko on the depth chart for sure but it would end there. Habs are also for sure deep on the RD. doesn't mean they should unload their best prospect on RD (other solid guys would be Brook and Fleury who are 1-2 years away) Weber and Petry are in 30s now, they are still top pairing and top 4 caliber resptectively. Doesn't at all mean Juulsen should be moved (especially when Juulsen is going to get guaranteed 1st or 2nd paring minutes while Weber is out).

And I never actually read anywhere that MTL had interest in Brodin, especially that they were willing to move Chucky for the guy lol It's more that the fan base put 2 and 2 together and thought Brodin could be a fit on the 2nd pairing with Petry. and I still believe Brodin would be useful, but I'm sure not giving Juulsen for him.

Besides, I would not have paid such a price for him. What other clubs offer in reality is much lower than this price

I think your value for Brodin is right with what your asking but man I love Juulsen. When Weber went down last year he played top four minutes for 23 games and still came out as plus player on a team where no one was a plus player.

I think the value is right but I think Montreal will be seeing how he does this season without Weber and if he performs then they will likely move Petry instead.

Nutivarra is just starting to show his talent. Spurgeon is good but the Jackets are very high on Nutivarra.
