Habs and Yotes

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2018

Description
Yotes make push for playoffs after Strome struggles in Oct/Nov and need veteran scorer. PAC more open to new start with up and coming team and low media pressure in Arizona). Hans get struggling prospect in Strome (give him the 2C for the year with 1st PP unit) plus a potential low to mid 1st Rd pick.

Love Bryon but UFA so getting a 2nd from LA, as they like the speed and secondary scoring brings.

Line up deployment more like two 2nd lines and two 3rd lines.

Keep Pleks for the year unless he wants to move at TDL for a playoff run.

I would not do that if I'm the Yotes. Dylan strome is a very good young player, and he's a cost controlled asset, whereas Patches is a UFA. Also, I don't know how you came to the conclusion that Strome is a 'struggling prospect', but that's completely untrue

This makes sense - Arizona drafting Hayton this year may be a signal they aren't sure Strome is going to bust out for them, but the Habs are desperate enough for centres that its worth a try.

Still lots of time for Strome to become a great player in the NHL, but for a 3rd overall pick to still not be able to nail down a spot on a bad Coyotes team suggests that he is more a prospect with upside but not a sure bet. Arizona has missed the playoffs for years and in order to compete they may have to trade have to trade a young player with potential for a veteran rental.

If you can convince the yotes to make this trade great. I think they will have a problem with the 1st,

Premise of PAC and Strome+1st trade is Strome struggles in first few months of season which give Yotes more pause for when / what Strome will develop into. The 1st Rd pick is top 3 protected and included based on PAC extended.

It will certainly be interesting to see where Pacs ends up (assuming he does eventually get traded).

I see Ana, Arizona, Buf, Dal (reunite with Radoluv and another team that needs to make a step forward this year), maybe Chi, Fla (rumour for a while but with Hoffman there not as big of need on LW). More teams with interest at TDL if Habs hold on to him that long. NYR will take a look if he gets to UFA but don't see them making a trade for him.

he might be under-performing for where he was drafted, but that's not even close to the same thing as Struggling. Struggling is a guy like Francis Perron in Ottawa, who went from 76 and 108 point seasons in the Q, to 26 and 15 point seasons in the AHL. Strome was over a point a game in his first pro season, and has clearly shown that his game breaking skill is going to translate just fine to the tougher Pro game.

I suspect he starts the season on the yotes 3rd line, and is playing either with Galch or Keller or both by the Deadline.

Agree this is quiet possible and maybe more likely. Again my trade is totally based on Strome struggling at the start of this season and the Yotes organization really looking to make playoffs this year. Two large assumptions I know.

I think that they could not make a single move from here to the start of the season and they'd be knocking on the playoff door. They have all the makings of a playoff team; A legit game-stealing Starter, a very solid defensive unit (could use another puck moving option), and they have a solid forward core that they've done a lot to add to already.

I think if they are going to try to make that plunge and get that big name forward to put them over the edge, I think they would zero in on Mark Stone pretty quickly. He's younger than Patches, he's miles better than him, and he's a beast defensively. If they're willing to move a guy like Strome anyway, I think you get a lot more bang for your buck, even though he's going to cost you a lot more.

I agree.. definitely under performing but not struggling. He's due for a break out season this year. That being said though depends on what the Coyotes want to do this year. They want to make a run at the cup or develop young talent?.. If they want to make a run Pacioretty might be worth that price.
