Other trade possibilities?

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Anders Lee has the 5th most goals in the entire NHL the last two seasons. He is Big, Strong, and a beast near the net. With Hertl, Kane, and Meier already there, adding Lee would make the sharks an absolute physical, immovable force.

Also, since he is currently only making 3.7M, he might be extendable for just 6M per.

He's not plan A, but hed be a pretty great backup choice.

I wonder if the sharks might have to part with a top 9 forward like Labanc in return, but I thought that NYI might need goaltending most of all. Or, perhaps someone like Dillon to solidify their D. However, Gambrell and Roy gives them two good prospects at F and D, along with the 1st so it's not a bad deal for them.

Anders Lee's contract is perfect for one year. I think he is a great goal scorer but would love to see what he can do without JT beside him. The only problem with the trade, is that too many players are going over the the Islanders. They already have plenty of bottom 6 guys so I don't think they need more. But you never know.

You may remember Anders Lee from when he was called Matt Moulsen or any other goal scorer who scored while playing with Tavares. Tavares is like a modern day Matts Sundin, the kid had insane talent and makes those around him so much better. Without him those players are just average guys.

Sundin did the same for guys like Hoglund, Antropov, Ponikarovsky etc. Lee won't score 30 without Tavares. He may struggle to score 20.

Yeah, obviously his numbers may be inflated with Tavares (See: cheechoo...). And you might be right about about NYI not wanted a package of prospects and picks, even if it includes a goaltending upgrade. I could see Labanc going the other way, or possible a guy like Joakim Ryan or Brendan Dillon to bolster their D.

The Isles have alot of good young talent at forward in Barzal, Bauvillier, Bailey, and potentially Ho-Sang. They still have Eberle and Nelson as well at 28 or younger. Last season, they didnt have that much trouble scoring but the D and goaltending were horrific. I figure that's the area they will look to improve if they move Nelson, Eberle, or Lee throughout the season.

Could be! I think that will become alot more clear this season, obviously. I definitely understand the Sundin comparison. Nevertheless, I like Lee's size and skill around the net even if he returns to the 20 to 25 goal, 50 pt mark. I think the sharks are evolving into a big physical, powerful, and fast team as Hertl, Meier, and Kane make up 3 of the top 6 wingers. All three are big, physically dominant younger players who possess the puck, control the crease, and can finish with soft hands and punish opposing defensemen. If Lee, a former football player, is added to the mix, the Sharks would be absolutely a terror to play against.

I think Dell is a central component to the deal. The Isles need defense and goaltending. The Isles were 7th in goal scoring, and while losing tavares will be a big hit to that, clearly scoring was not an issue. However, they were dead last in goals against. Griess was awful, and Lehner, on a one year deal is not a likely solution. I know Dell is not a solidified goaltender, but he would seem to be a big upgrade over what they have now.

Further, they need good D. They have young forwards, but little on the back end. That's why I wonder if Roy and Dell are enough, and whether a guy like Ryan or Dillon might be needed instead.

Either way, I think Dell would be a centerpiece. Karlsson would be a cap swap for the sharks as they would have alot of trouble keeping Lee long term (always the plan on younger deadline acquisitions) with karlsson's 2M the books in 2019-20. Also, karlsson's specialty is killing penalties and defensive play, so he would fit the mold of a forward that the Isles need.

Basically, it would be the sharks getting a physical top 6 forward for a potential #1 goalie, a top defensive prospect, a better defensive forward and penalty killer, and a top pick. Fits the needs of both teams as the sharks are clearly in the market for a difference maker at forward, while the Isles have gotta be looking to solidify their back end.

Ya i understand that but sanjose does not need lehner jones is the starter lehner to good gor a back up him and dell on one team both getting 41games that great but that leave sanjose with no back up maybe this trade works out to be a three way trade where sanjose gets a good back up who is willing to play 30 something games then it could work

NYI will not need 3 goalies on the roster. The sharks can find a good backup for 2019-20 as needed. And, since this deal will happen near the deadline, Lehner would likely only see 3-5 games in teal and serve as a backup for the POs. The sharks will not need a good backup at that point (most likely). Perhaps Bibeau can be the backup in 2019-20, or otherwise dougie can go shopping as back up goalies are cheap.
