Description
Dzingel had 19 goals at Even Strength last year, Tied with Stone for 1st on the Sens. That number would have ranked 2nd on the sharks behind just logan couture.

Dzingel has only emerged in the last two seasons, but he is young, and may be a diamond in the rough.

When the Sens suck this year (not if but when), Dzingel will be a UFA and would likely be part of any fire sale as no one would want to resign there long term right now. Given Dzingel's just 40 points, and lack of brand name, I think the price would be lower. It's conceivable that once of the sharks, with good linemates, and a strong team, he could emerge as a legit player. The risk is low, and he might be a good shot in the dark.

I would add that he really came on late last year with just 13 points in the first three months of the season, only to put up 28 points in the second half (42 games). that's 55 pts/82 games pace starting Jan 1.

And Given his sub 2M/per salary and young age, he will clearly fit in the cap scheme going forward. Even if he has a good year and earns 4-5M, that can fit into the sharks cap plans nicely, and could provide great value. Seems like a Doug Wilson special. Low risk, high reward.

Its probably too much going to Ottawa but I like the idea of getting Dzingel, he is really underrated.

Exactly! it's likely an overpay, but that's what dougie does when he finds a good fit. He overpaid for Burns (basically 3 first rounders in setoguchi, coyle, and a 1st) for a to-be-UFA. he wanted him in the org, and he knows that the hardest part is getting a player into SJ, but that the developing and resigning is the easier task.

If Wilson sees top 6 potential there, he will overpay. The good news is that any 2nd rounder is very hit/miss, and will likely be in the 50's overall range, so its no big deal. Gambrell looks like a solid prospect but with Balcers, Suomela, and a few others, the prospect pool is rich with gambrell-like talent. Roy is another high end possibility, but very uncertain given the injuries. He has been in many ways passed up by Simek, Middleton, and Wood, not to mention Heed and Ryan. And karlsson is a very good PK defensive forward, so the sens might like him, but he is quickly losing a lineup spot for SJ given the forward depth.

So, while the two solid prospects, good depth forward, and 2nd rounder is a steep price, it's easily absorbed for the Sharks without hurting the current roster, or likely much of the future. And, if Dzingle, just entering his prime, emerges as a 50-60 pt player, who can score 20 at even strength, then it's a steal. And if he doesn't pan out, it's not a big problem.
