We’re NOT trading Tuch! He’s untouchable at the moment for us.
Also, we are not taking on all that cap for those two with us needing space to re-sign players after this season.

GM: hey willy, we were thinking about a 5 year deal at around 5.5 per. how do you feel about that?
Karlsson: um. isn't that about what Tom Wilson just got?
GM: It's a bit more.
Karlsson: dude I scored 43 goals last year.
GM: Wilson scored 35!
Karlsson: ya, over a 5 year career you dolt.

dude. why does a guy who just popped 43 sign for 3rd line money. He'll go to arbitration and ask for 9.

Might wanna check that, he's asking 6.5 so obviously he's gonna get less

i was kidding. and for one year that's reasonable. If they were offering him a 5 year deal i'm guessing he would ask for 10.

Well, you might argue that the price is high but I think trading Tuch for Kessel is a deal you have to make if you're Vegas, 1.1 pts per game vs. less than 0.5. So idk if he's as untouchable as you think. He's good for sure, obviously. As for taking on more space, I was curious to see what contracts were coming up next season so I looked at it and did these re-signings:

UFA YEARS CAP HIT
Engelland, Deryk 1 $1,500,000
Schmidt, Nate 4 $4,000,000
Bellemare, Pierre-Édouard 1 $1,500,000
RFA YEARS CAP HIT
Nosek, Tomas 1 $1,500,000

Just a quick look and Vegas would have 1 mill left in space (without considering a cap increase, which would probably mean 2-3 mill in space)
What do you think?

If I was him I wouldn't take a long term deal unless it was much more, I more looking at this 3 way trade from Ottawa/Pens side, I'm sure Vegas could do all sorts of things if they wanted him longer or shorter or what ever

no i was kidding about him asking for 9. Giving a 25 year old 43 goal scorer a 5 year 5.5 contract is an absolute joke. dude tom wilson just got a very similar deal.....Tom...Wilson. If you want Karlsson for 5 years, double your offer.

I can’t argue with Kessels production now, but Tuch is looking like he’s going to explode this season while Kessel could begin to regress.

This is exactly why Karlsson went to arbitration in the first place. We can argue all day about what he’s worth and whether he deserves it, but he only has one season of proof. If he scores 30+ goals again next year I’d be glad to pay him whatever he wants.

Sure, we can argue all day about what he's worth. One thing that I don't think is up for debate is that he would never take that deal you proposed. Tom Wilson got an extra year and just a shade less and has fewer goals in his 5 year career than Karlsson had last year. How do you think he would ever agree to that?

You are right, If I were Karlsson I would never accept 6.5 for more than one season. The problem there is if we do give him something like a 6 year 10mil AAV contract and he somehow flops next season he ruins his career and turns into a more expansive Bobby Ryan.

that's a problem for vegas, not for him....he got 60 million dollars. He'll also want max term, because everyone wants max term
