Cap Hell-feedback appreciated-read description
If Stastny doesn’t pan out after he comes back from injury, I’d probably “Tatar him” and move him out for a different, better 2C in his spot for next season. This season we could probably get someone strictly as a rental who could split 2C time with Stas if we go to playoffs. In terms of the rest of the contracts, we should be fine as everyone else has said. Plus we need to make some space for Haula next season too because good knows how much McPhee wants to pay him lol.

I’d love Willy Nylander, but I’m pretty sure the Leafs would want a lot more for him in that trade. Maybe like another first or second maybe...

No problem, our lines are hard to predict and understand unless you’re really someone who follows everything they do so it’s fine. I was just recommending what changes I would make based on what I’ve seen and know from watching the team so far this pre-season.
I’ve seen that article too btw, and it really misses the mark on few things when I read it.

Love the Faulk trade, reallly makes sense for the team but time is tight to make it happen.
In terms of the lines, there’s a lot of changes. Hyka is no where near making the 23-man squad. Based on how things have gone so far in the preseason, I could see Haula playing 2ndLine RW with Stas and Patches. I would then put Nosek-Eakin-Tuch as the third. The fourth would be Carrier-Belle-Pirri/Carpenter.

Fight back
I’m actually really into these trades. As long as Trouba re-signs its great, but I’m not sure the Jets would want to trade him to another team in he west. The values seem pretty good, but not sure how Rangers and Jets fans would feel about it.
Btw, Nosek is definately on the 4th line left wing because he’s a lot better and younger than Lindberg, plus where’s Reaves? He’s at least scratched.

I’d disagree because from all the Knights games I saw last year, Nosek fit the system really well and got into plays well even playing on the bottom 6. He looked good in that first preseason game and projects to play well this season while I think Lindberg gets traded by the deadline.

The trades were an afterthought to make cap space relativity “realistically” for EK. For Montreal, I thought they could use a good veteran center to help their young guys grow.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I think that is a very real possibility. Sure they will have a very good defence, but their 3rd line isn't a very good 4th line and the 4th line will be league minimum contracts because they can't afford anything else.</div></div>
Not to mention their blueline is much more offensive than defensive and turnover-prone . The question really is whether they can score enough goals to make up for the many they will give up.

Love the trade idea including Dzingel into the deal. The value seems to be decent but looking more at the additions. Cap would be tight, but not totally improbable by moving players like Eakin, Holden and Reaves to make space.

I love the look of this idea, but cap space is gonna be tough for 2019-20. Could make it work since Haula and Schmidt won’t get big raises and some fringe players can be traded/re-signed for less.

The value is close, if not on Carolinas side, but I would decline since Haula is really versatile and has a big role on our team even on the third line.

I’m kinda annoyed, but kinda happy because trying to get Suzuki to play the wing in the future wasn’t going well and Tatar didn’t get a chance to succeed in our system, plus one of our three seconds.
The question is now whether GMGM re-signs him and to he much. Can’t wait for next season!! Go Knights Go!

I’d be over the moon if this happened, but sadly no one does it often because it would put a target on our back for RFAs like Theodore or Tuch. If we could pull that off and keep our RFAs, it would be incredible

Does the Schmidt suspension speed up an EK trade?
It’s the complete opposite... we aren’t trading our best young defenseman when we are lacking on the blueline already. If an EK move happens, then it would be for prospects, picks, and players that aren’t untouchable

There’s a reason why we didn’t re-sign Sbisa after this season (and why the Nucks let him go and no ones signed him yet), and why we traded Emelin immediately after the expansion draft. There’s no need to get anyone. We can easily hold out from inside the organization. Even is Branny’s not NHL ready, playing partly in those 20 games is valuable experience since he’ll be down in Chicago anyway. It’s a win-win situation; he plays well, he gets a roster spot, he doesn’t play well, he goes to Chicago anyway where he would have been.

I’d be open to that Knights trade. I’d prefer a right-handed dman, but Edler is good and Granlund would be good for depth if he rebounds with us.

Karlsson to Vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>Players enter their primes at 27 and decline usually around 33/34. 24 year old players are still developing. This trade forces Vegas to bump lower quality players into the line up. Merrill was a healthy scratch majority of the playoffs. Lindberg and Tatar struggled, you bump up Nosek to the 3rd line and suddenly there's more holes because of the trade. It creates more holes for Vegas to fill.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Ultimate_Pielord</b></div><div>Miller, Theodore, Tuch and a 1st for that package would be absolute robbery for Vegas, even if you're as high on Theodore and Miler as is in any way reasonable.That's a #1D, a top-pair D, a top-6 F and a nothing first for a Norris contender, a low top-line F, a high top-line F, and a 3rd line forward. That's robbery.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Carrying it one step further, I don't think Las Vegas should exchange this package for Karlsson, Duchene, Dzingel and Stone. But then, I'm an extremist.</div></div>
I just happened to come back into here and saw like 14 replies in this thread lol. I’m surprised by how much came out of my comment.
Now, my philosophy for how I think this team should go about this season is, as UltimatePielord said, we should go all in and chase the cup while our Fleury window is open. Yes, I’ve seen countless people say that he will likely play until he’s forty-plus years old but I’m not sure his active goalkeeping will allow him to play at a serviceable level for more than maybe 3-4 seasons. I think after that he will start to drop of drastically sort of like what’s happening with Pekka Rinne. We are similar to Nashville in that they built up their team with big name players (Subban, Josi, Johansen etc.) and really good youngsters (Forsberg, Arvidsson, etc.) to push for the cup while Pekka Rinne is “too good right now”. We should follow that line of thinking.
As for our lines, the first line is already set in stone. The second line is likely Tatar-Stastny-Tuch as Gallant wants Tatar to have two steady linemates to play along side him night-in-night-out. The third line of Haula-Eakin-? Is where we need to make some moves. Eakin had good production last year, but I’d want Haula to play center to get as close as he can to producing like he did last year. In terms of the third line we have plenty of depth forwards like Carpenter, Lindberg, Pirri, etc. to play the 3rd line RW but none of them brings me confidence to produce there. I’d personally prefer to move Eakin in a trade to clear a spot for Haula at center and acquire players to play on the wings. I’d love a Dzingel-Haula-Chiasson third line for example. The fourth line is also set in stone. On defense, the left side is loaded with Schmidt, Theodore and McNabb. The right side needs another Top4 D to fit between Miller, Engelland and Holden. Someone like Faulk would obviously fit in that role for example. In goal we have great depth behind MAF and a good almost ready prospect pool. Glass and Suzuki really could use a season in the minors to be ready for the NHL and Brännström/Hague could crack into the lineup late in the season as depth guys. Lastly, we also need some cap space to extend and re-sign a lot of players and manage depth. Sorry for the novel, thanks!
