Karlsson is just a rental now. Vegas takes Bobby Ryan’s massive poopy contract (there’s a big time cost to that). Ottawa would be lucky to get a prospect like Hague, a 1st and a 2nd at this point. Ottawa has a very good reputation for getting terrible returns in trades, I can’t think of a trade Dorian has ever even come close to winning. This is a Dorian style trade.

I was just about to point out that the trade includes the relief from Ryan's contract, but the poster beat me to it. As a result, I don't think this is far off. Add Las Vegas' third-rounder in 2019 and it feels right.

This is what Dorian does-
Trades Zibanejad and a 2nd for Brassard, then Brassard for a late 1st.
So Zibanejad and a 2nd for a late 1st. That’s insane.
Then Turris, JACK HUGES! Shane Bowers and a 2nd for............ Matt Duchene!

And then they take back Clarkson's contract, so no; Clarkson has $8M left to pay out vs Bobby's $30M. So it's $22M more to have Bobby Ryan on your team instead - which over the remaining 4 years is $5.5M per year. A player that will never play another game ever again and just sit on the cap (like MacArthur is already doing for us) or a middle 6 winger who has had success in the past but keeps getting hampered by injuries for $5.5M? There's no actual "relief" from his contract; instead we're just giving a player up. Most would rather pay what works out to $5.5M a year to have Ryan.

Absolutely right . . . take Ryan and Clarkson out of the trade. Make the second-round pick Las Vegas' own.

I think it’s more about the actual cap hit 7.25

With Patches extended, can can’t afford to resign EK and keep Bobby Ryan anyway.

No you can, Brassard (Pittsburgh) salary retention (2million) comes off the books after this year and the cap will rise by at least 2 million next year (Patch’s raise is 3 million)
