Why Nate!?

Created by: VRCR

Description
After Nate Schmidt’s, apparent, PED suspension I wanted to see how our blueline stacks up without him. The right side should be fine for now, and the left is good as well.
Luckily, If anything, this gives players like Brännström, Whitecloud, Hague or Bischoff a chance to push for a spot on the team after camp. We also have Brad Hunt as a serviceable extra d-man if necessary.
I still DONT want the team to trade for EK if it means we mindlessly give them important pieces of the current team to get him. We survived going through 5 goalies this same time last season, I think we’ll be fine again.
Moves could still possibly be made on the blueline and also figuring out who stays and who goes around that bottom 6/ depth forwards group.
Also, don’t forget that Schmidt’s on a contract year so he’s gonna come back hungrier than ever to play up to a big contract. Don’t count us out just yet...

Well put. No need to panic -- then we might do something like trade Marchessault for Adam Larsson.

Sign Sbisa or Emelin. That right side is NOT alright. You're welcome.

Sbisa and Emelin are god awful they'd be better off letting someone like Brannstrom play full time until Schmidt is back

Well, yeah, if Brannstrom is ready, that'd be great. But he probably isn't, and playing him over ten games comes with its own set of issues..... trade for Kempny and play him on his off side!

There’s a reason why we didn’t re-sign Sbisa after this season (and why the Nucks let him go and no ones signed him yet), and why we traded Emelin immediately after the expansion draft. There’s no need to get anyone. We can easily hold out from inside the organization. Even is Branny’s not NHL ready, playing partly in those 20 games is valuable experience since he’ll be down in Chicago anyway. It’s a win-win situation; he plays well, he gets a roster spot, he doesn’t play well, he goes to Chicago anyway where he would have been.

This isn't the end of the world for us.

to be honest, this may be a good thing long term.

Schmidt is in a contract year and this may allow us to sign him cheaper in the off season
