He will be. He was put on unconditional waivers for purposes of a buyout today.

Okay, thanks! Just to clarify, if he was just waived, other teams could pick him up but would have to honor his contract, correct? Now they could simply sign him (not sure what value he still has) as a UFA. Gotcha.

That's right, if they were to claim him now, they'd be stuck with his current contract. Unless it was a highly sought after player, there's no incentive for a team to claim him on waivers. They'll just wait for him to reach free agency.
