ANH says Hard Pass. Because Gibson is younger as better and will only get older if you blow them away and you arent.

I disagree. Sitting here in my Hollywood home 30 miles up the I-5 from The Pond, I take that trade in a heartbeat. With Gibson's injury history, I'd be surprised Minnesota would take such a chance; I think it's an overpayment anyway; and those TWO first-round picks are just too delicious. Let's see what the Minnesota boys (MNBassman, arousedcat, et al.) think.

Wow... Why would Ana trade Gibby?

He played 60 games last year for us...how many more do you want him to play? I would never trade Gibby for Dub. In fact I wouldn't trade Gibby no matter what. Arguably a top 5 goalie when his team is healthy in front of him and they want to play hockey and not just puck watch.

Because some times, a trade is too good to pass up. Now I admit this isn't a one-for-one swap for Connor McDavid, but those two first-rounds picks are just too much to turn down. And yes, Gibson shows lots of promise, and one day, may be in the first rank along with Quick, Price, Lundqvist and whoever else you put in that first category. But right now, he's not untouchable. Can I point out the last time a goalie (Corey Schneider) was traded for ONE first-round pick (who turned out to be Bo Horvat)? Double that and include Gibson's replacement (who isn't all that much worse) and you'll see why this is a trade that is too good to pass up. But I repeat myself.

This is where you are wrong... This trade isn't that good for Anaheim, a team who has struggled to score the past season and with no new additions could have the same issue this year. The Ducks don't have a young goalie to take over in the next 3 years to replace Dubnyk and be as dominate as Gibson has been.

7 years age difference and the Wild get the better goaltender as well. Which means their 1st round draft picks won't mean crap and will get you a late 1st round draft pick. Dubnyk isn't that great. He's streaky and at times can't stop a beach ball and lets his team down.

Schneider was traded to an okay NJ team and Vancouver still had Luongo in net. They got the #9 overall pick to get Horvat but they couldn't pay both the goalies and they had to trade one. Anaheim did the same thing a couple years ago with trading Freddie and getting Sam Steel with Pittsburgh's pick which they acquired from Toronto.

This trade will never be too good to pass up. First round picks aren't everything and you aren't looking at what Anaheim really needs and that is secondary scoring. IF you are trading Gibson, then it better fix that issue first and not make the team go worse.

A very convincing argument. I hope I root as hard this year for the Ducks as I'm sure you will.

Nice to have an argument and not have name calling.

Honestly, if you throw Zucker or a goal scorer in the trade, it might be completely different.

Not an argument . . . a difference of opinion. My default mode is Ya Can't Have Enough First-Round Picks.

Gibson is a great young tendy, but after we've thrown away so many 1sts and seconds (3 1sts if you count Tuch to Vegas, and 4 2nds in the past 6 drafts) trading them away like this would be silly. I think for a different package I'd be on board, since we literally have no plan after Duby, but I'm not sure what. I also have doubts that Anaheim would be even willing to trade Gibson. Somehow we've always managed to find solid goaltending (Backstrom and Dubnyk), so hopefully that luck continues.

Hah! See how little Anaheim thinks of Gibson NOW?

Seriously, the extension proves which one of us was . . . er, more informed.

Haha fair enough. I thought the overall deal was pretty good though.
