It makes some sense for sure. And I know that Vegas were in on him at the deadline, but, if you're extending Karlsson (say 7 x $11 or so?), all of the sudden you're adding $17-$18 million to your payroll for a star and a guy that probably doesn't fit Gallant's scheme at all.

Karlsson's value is something along the lines of a top prospect + 1st + Young NHLer with high potential.

Karlsson's value with Bobby Ryan attached @ around $6 mil/year for the next 4 years isn't.

I also don't think that Karlsson is going to immediately jump and sign an extension. He's waited this long to get out of Ottawa, so why not test free agency next summer?

My thoughts- Keep Ryan, you've got the space, and take the best deal available. I'd say it's probably something closer to Suzuki + 1st + Colin Miller + something?

At this point, I’m over trading for Karlsson as we can get more overall value to help the team in other trades that also aren’t as suicidal for our cap.
