Description
The outline for the leafs cap situation should we trade for Parayko. Leafs now have a legitimate D to go up against. Still not elite, but neither was Washington's or Pittsburgh's. Didn't want to trade Connor Brown, I'm one of the guys who actually loves him, but had to go here due to salary. I know I'm a few mil over but hope is cap is 1 mil or so higher combined with some resigning taking a little bit less money than predicted (ie Rosen signing for 800k vs 1m) to make up the gap. Top 6 remains intact. Loving line 3 too. Bottom six is super cheap as is the backend of the D as is necessary with JT/AM/WN/MM, but still skilled, lots of rookie deals. As for long term sustainability, the Marleau deal will come off of the books after the season this cap situation is set in, so the Marleau deal expiring plus a cap increase should result in 10 mil in cap room for the following offseason, not enough to sign impact players but enough to resign young guys (Dermott/Hyman/others). This is also when Johnsson should move to top 6 to replace Marleau.

I don’t know how many times it has to be said. WE CANT GET PARAYKO! Without overpaying that is. He is an absolute stud on the right side and there is no reason to trade him away. So we would have to pay more than a rental in Gardiner, a good prospect in Kapanen and a couple decent picks?? So please to all leaf fans stop before St. Louis fans hate us even more

We are going for a cup run. Trading Parayko makes no sense whatsoever. You have to overpay to get him.

All three of those guys are better than parayko and yea I would trade Schultz and Dumo for that in a heartbeat, would want a bit more for Tanger because he's the best of the three and my favourite player but not too much more

It’s actually underpay by a lot. Because Parayko most other places would be a top Line Guy.

Gardiner is a Rental at 1 year and probably won’t Sign so yes it isn’t worth it idiot

Yeah I realize that, Kapanen and 1st is more than enough for parayko so the package put together above is way more than needed for the trade

Even without watching him play you can tell he already plays enough minutes to be a top line guy. Plus the guy is 6 foot 6, lays the body and blocks shots. I love Kapanen but until he scores 20+ goals, he and a first is no where near enough for a top pairing RHD.

This "neither was Washington or Pittsburgh's" comparison is just becoming absurd. Their cores are better than Toronto's.

So I would say the vatanen trade is a very similar example of a top 4 dman trade and that only netted Ana a 2c and a prospect, so the above trade is more than fair, traded in prime at same age (parayko will be close to 26yo for this trade) (both traded near 4 years into career), very similar ppg (0.43 vs 0.46 vat) and with almost identical 5v5 stats, parayko shoots more but he shoots on average from further out so that's a minus until he improves that, very similar contracts, only major difference would be parayko is better defensively but vatanen offensively with overall edge pointed towards vatanen

An overpayment from Toronto would be Matthews. This proposal would result in Armstrong instituting a lifetime block on any phone call coming from Toronto.

NHL.com has Parayko ranked the #39th best D in the league. I don’t 109% agree with their list but he’s somewhat close to that range. That makes him a 1st pairing D on a lot of teams. You are either trolling or incredibly uninformed.

Parayko is 100x the defenseman Dumo or Schultz will ever be and he's younger. Letang is probably a little better but not by much.

I do agree you guys are likely to make the playoffs, cup run? Please, Jake Allen isn't good enough, and he never will be you guys give him this long leash, look how quick the Leafs acted on mediocre goalies (unbias) if you guys really wanna play, you would've been in on Grubauer Andersen, Fleury, Lehner (Who put up a 920 on **** team 2 years ago and same numbers as Allen this year on Buffalo, and Raanta. For that reason you guys aint anything to write home about. Plus Hutton was great last season, if you aren't hammering teams in their own end you guys aren't a cup contender. JAKE ALLEN SUCKS.
