Is this a good trade? Let me know

Description
Is this a good trade, I don’t really know what the value is on draisaitl. The Habs are taking one of the worst contracts in the league and the oilers need wingers. Also that first round pick is probably a top 5 pick, maybe 1st overall in a really strong draft.

It's decent value-wise, but considering the main asset from MTL in the trade is going to be an UFA in one year is too much of a risk for EDM to take.

I would say that the main asset from MTL is that first rounder, that pick has a good chance to turn into an amazing player, Jack Hughes, Kappo Kakko, Vasily Podkolzin. Who could easily be the best player in this trade

But I do agree with you pacioretty probably won’t resign so maybe a conditional pick should be added

Possibly, but then it would be a pretty stupid move from MTL to make. Hughes will potentially be way better than Draisaitl.

Ditch shaw, ditch pacioretty, add drouin and mete. That would at least get the conversation started

Honestly besides the 2019 first rounder I don’t think Montreal has the players that Edmonton would want or need back in order to trade Draisaitl

If patch resigns I think it’s a fair trade

What is with all these Habs/Oilers trades for Drai lately?

Habs have at least two good C prospects in the system - Kotkaneimi and Poehling - and like 5 more C prospects - plus a decent shot at Hughes this year.

Why the h e double hockey sticks would the Habs trade for Drai if it means losing out on a chance to get a player who might be better for free and would almost certainly involve trading their best LHD (mete) or only decent RHD under 30 (Juulson)?

Through luck, fate, and the draft the Habs are a year or two away from filling their centre line needs. Why blast a hole in the lineup somewhere else now to fix it a year early, muck up the chance at a good pick, and effectively render the work done drafting the kids moot?

It makes no sense whatsoever for the Habs and the Oilers to be playing this game. About the only Hab that is even reasonably likely to be an Oiler by season's end is Bryon, if only as a depth insurance option at the deadline. (cheap, fast, can score, dangerous on PK? Easily tradable for a pick)

Montreal needs to re-sign Pacioretty with the understanding that they'll try to deal him to one of the teams he'd like to join. Montreal can eat 50% of any contract — certainly up to 5 years anyway — without much trouble. It's a win-win-win for everyone. Pacioretty gets certainty (lest he gets hurt this year), Habs get time to shop a better contract, and the receiving team gets Pacioretty for about $4M/year.
