WPG ARZ trade

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2018
Published: Aug. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Deal sees ARZ have a solidified young top pair of OEL/Trouba. ARZ won't care what Trouba will want next year especially with how weak they are down the right side of their D-core and how solid they are on the left. Winnipeg needs to get value on Trouba and getting a young (albeit) LHD is probably as good as they can do. It will also give them flexibility to move a LHD in the future to address other needs when Niku, Samberg, and Stanley are ready to play in the NHL.
Chayka being an analytics guru will absolutely love the idea of getting trouba based on his advanced analytics and though winnipeg doesn't want to move Trouba and would prefer to sign him long term, it's pretty obvious they either move him now or have a diminishing asset that likely leaves in FA in 2 years.

Winnipegs D-core is still solid however they'll need to address the RHD situation as Buff is getting older and Myers is up next year but they will remain competitive and not have the Trouba distraction anymore.

The deal also gives WPG the CAP flexibility they'll need for Laine, Connor, Wheeler extensions the following year.

Trouba wants to play in the east. He'd be there for one or tow years only.

I don't like this trade at all. Moving Trouba and not getting an immediate RHD back is ok but then we need either an immediate 2C or a top pair potential RHD as part of the package. Chychrun is an RFA at the end of the season so likely wouldn't provide much help with getting Laine, Connor, Wheeler, extended.

Don't like Chych as a return for Trouba and hate that you added our 1st on top to make that happen. LHD is right there with Wingers as the last thing we need. We already have Morrissey, Kulikov, Chiarot and Morrow with Niku, Samberg and Stanley on the way.

Arizona has lots of other interesting players, especially if we're looking for a Center as a return but they don't have that high end RHD prospect I'd want.

ARZ gets the 1st because it's value isn't actually as high as you're thinking it is (likely between 25-31) so a really late 1st and due to contract status. Chychrun has 4 years of control left minimum Trouba 2.

It's not adding a 1st its swapping for a 3rd. Wpgs 1st is a late one and holds more similar value to a 3rd than it does a top 15 pick (likely based on the Jets having another good season)

I am a Jets fan I know they will do good this season. I am only saying that the 1st is to much trouba is better then Chychrun no point to add the first and how is a mid third have similar value to a late first?

A mid 3rd compared to a late 1st in the 25+ range https://www.tsn.ca/statistically-speaking-nhl-draft-pick-value-1.786131 and yes I do whole heartedly agree Trouba is better than Chychrun but to get back a solid and young D man who still has potential for someone who wants out especially when the kid you're getting has double the amount of control, and will cost a fraction of what Trouba does for the next 2 years (925K this year + whatever his RFA deal is which will guarenteed be less than 5.5M) will be helpful in signing the other young guys the Jets have!

Yeah maybe because it's been widely reported that he wants to play in the East? Even his own agent Kurt Overhardt stated that when Trouba sat out two seasons ago.
