After Hank - Youth Movement

Created by: lampshadey20
Team: 2018-19 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 14, 2018
Published: Aug. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jensen and Glendening trades are to make space; I think both are reasonable.

The Islanders haven't really given Ho-Sang a real shot; Nyquist gives them a top 6 winger that will help them shoot for the playoffs, which their string of veteran signings indicate they're trying to do, and Ho-Sang gives Detroit a young reclamation project.

I am not surprised that the Wings are in cap trouble. I put out an armchair GM about the cap issues for 2018-19, in fact, Larkishin, a Wings fan was very adamant that there would be no issues. Haven't seen him on the site in a while. Not sure what the solution is here, but whomever is the gm in Detroit is far worse than Bergevin. I don't see anyone taking on any of those contracts proposed in trade and I doubt very much Isles would move Ho Sang for Nyquist. Maybe Bertuzzi for Ho Sang but that doesn't solve your cap issues. Bonne chance.

First - there aren't cap issues on this team, there's over $9M in cap space after the LTIRetirement of Zetterberg. Did you look at the roster? Second - Holland gives out brutal contracts to bottom six players, but he doesn't trade away stars like Bergevin does so I'm gonna disagree hard there. Bergevin is a world class idiot. Third - Edmonton's looking for a right handed puck moving defenseman; Jensen is that, and he's cheap. Babcock loves Glendening, and at $1M per season he's not a bad deal for a 4th round pick. The Islanders have had nothing but issues with Ho-Sang and need to replace offense with Tavares leaving. Nyquist is a top 6 forward and costs them a prospect they clearly don't plan on playing anyway, plus they get a 4th round pick out of it. It's not a slam dunk by any means, but it's not a ridiculous proposal at all.

laugh Wings have cap troubles is that why we've near $30 million to spend next summer with both Mule and Z on LTIR and closer to $50 million in 2020. Yeah that's cap trouble. laugh shakes head

call it whatever you like we are paying bad players good money. Sure sometimes you have to put up to keep people but guys like helm and abby and ericsson the money was too much but the term was way too long.

Fantastic, however, it doesn't answer your cap issues for this season nor does it answer if Zetterberg will be playing. Every article I had a look at today has the Wings GM commenting and how he doesn't know what is Zetterberg's status? Why not pick up the phone and call Zetterberg and ask or maybe even get a physical done. It's hard to understand how this franchise operates. I believe the glory years are behind them and that the future is bleak. I do like Bertuzzi, Mantha, Larkin and Zadina after that it's not very clear where this team is headed.

Judging by your tons of Montreal Armchair GM teams, you're a Canadiens fan. So it's clear you have no idea what our prospect pool is like; we also have Rasmussen, Berggren, Svechnikov, and Veleno, all of whom project to be good NHL forwards. Also, do you really think it's as easy as just getting a physical? He's 38, it's all about how his back feels to him when the season starts, not a doctor. You're pretty misinformed.

I obviously don't follow the Wings as much as you do and have little knowledge about your prospect pool but I took time to look up the prospects you mentioned. Rasmussen looks promising but soft as he has not played more than 50 games the last two season in WHL. Berggren is not even signed by the Wings. Svechnikov might make the show, stats aside who knows. Veleno hasn't signed with Detroit yet either. To summarize, 2 of the 4 players listed as high propects are not even signed by the Wings and the other two have potential and yet no defense prospects to replacing your aging core, as said before why move your most promising young dman in Jensen, moving him will not help the cap issues.
The question still remains, should Zetterberg play this season, how will the cap issues be resolved.
Lastly, not sure how me being a Habs fan doesn't make me a hockey fan, not sure why your taking shots at me? As for MTL, I don't support the many moves that Bergevin has made, he his killing our franchise. He should have drafted Zadina hands down, he should have not moved Subban or Serganchev. As for Galchenyuk, for his sake he had to go...Mtl nightlife was killing him. I'm aware of the state of the franchise and am not burying my head in the sand.
FYI, Bertuzzi is a local kid who I wish best success in his NHL career, he will be a fan favourite.

This illustrates why you should do a little more homework before commenting on another team's prospects. Veleno and Berggren aren't signed yet because they were literally just drafted. It's not uncommon at all for players just drafted to wait a year before signing their ELCs, especially those who don't have a shot to play in the NHL the year they're drafted. Rasmussen is "soft" because he had a fractured wrist this year? That's obtuse. Guess the 33 points in 14 playoff games count for nothing. I'm not taking shots at you because you're a Habs fan, I'm taking issue with you talking like you know about the players in the Wings' system when you clearly don't.
