Of all the teams that would be interested in Chris Tanev, the team with Subban and Ellis ahead of him on the depth chart would not be paying a big premium for defence.

Honestly, there is no way that the Wild would trade one of their top 6 players for a 3rd round pick. If I was the Wild GM, Id ask for a 2nd instead of a 3rd

Preds hang up. Not even remotely what we want.

Is the Stanley Cup something you might remotely want? Cuz having fantastic blue line depth is a great way to get there. Being able to roll 3 pairs and not wear out the top guys through the grind of the playoffs is a huge asset.

There are so many other teams that would pay a higher premium though, because those other teams don't have a stacked defence already.

True, but I just see a potential match with Nashville if Fabbro doesn't see a good opportunity with the Preds now that Subban and Ellis are locked up long term. If he feels like he wants to go somewhere where he has a better shot at cracking a top 4 role soon he has the leverage of telling Nashville he's considering not signing with them. In Van he'd get a ton of opportunity on his home town team.

You could be right but at the same time, I can see Nashville telling him, he'll be groomed to take over for Subban who they will trade prior to him hitting free agency.

PK still has 4 years on his deal. There's no way any young player will want to wait that long for a spot they think they could earn sooner. If he was already signed it would be completely different, as he'd have no choice but to do what the team wants. But the ball is in his court right now.

Perhaps the GM tells him that he'll start with sheltered minutes on the 3rd pairing but will be given more responsibility and if he shows his value, perhaps they move Subban out and get a big return and move him up to replace him?

That's probably what Poile will try to sell him on.
