Today Ovi and Crosby are 12 million dollar players; yet their agents convinced them to sign long term that allowed their clubs to go out and build a winning team for slightly less money. I'm confident Dubas can get it done so everyone is happy.
the other consideration is term. both nylander have to want a long term deal if ehlers, pastrnek contracts are comparable. if one party just wants a short term deal, the numbers will be different

For sure. I think Nylander will want 5-6 years to take him out of the contract at a prime age. Leafs should be setting it at 7 so there is lots of room down the road when JTs deal is done. But this is getting a little ahead of the process also I guess but you always gotta plan

looking at what wings larking did. five years....taking in ufa at a modest 6.1m. you suggested the 5-6 years. maybe the Larkin deal is kinda the compromise both sides are not really happy with but might be only way to get a resolution this summer.

The only reason why their cap hit was so “team friendly” was because they were signed to 12 and 13 year contracts. The term allowed the teams to get a lower cap hit. That’s not possible anymore which sucks.
