WPG OTT Jets are in it to win it

Created by: TotheNorth
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 23, 2018
Published: Aug. 23, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trouba wants to move to FLA, Chevy makes that happen knowing that OTT would prefer to move Karlsson out west. They use the return, add some picks and prospects to get Karlsson and Duchene. Duchene is a pure rental, Karlsson comes with an extension equal to Drew Doughtys and Winnipeg goes all in to win this year as they have no picks in the 1st 3 rounds next year and they'll have to move out CAP to get everybody signed (I'll follow up with another GM team to show what that will look like.)

TBL have a deadly top 4 as Trouba will likely extend in TB for 8 years at 6-6.5M per:

Hedman-Stralman
McDonagh- Trouba
Sergachev-Giradi/Dotchin/Koekkek

Winnipeg gets Karlsson to replace Trouba for the next 8 years and doesn't have to worry about getting a RHD back for Trouba and has the pieces to replace all the prospects they've traded to remain competative for the next 5-10 years but will need to make sacrifices in the coming years to make the CAP work.

There's no way OTT does better then that trading the two in any other deal. They do have to retain money this year but the return is well worth it to rejuvinate their franchise and give them something to look forward to in the coming years with 2 1sts in 2019, 2 2nds, and a boatload of prospects in Foote, Stanley, Raddysh, Petan, and lemieux. Chiarot is a CAP dump essentially.

You might need to take Callahan's contract off Tampa's hands to do it. Send Niku down to fit the cap. Then buy Callahan out next summer and you have two years at 1.933 of dead money.

Went off the premise that Callahan has a NMC and would veto a trade out of TB when they're close to winning a cup even if he's going to WPG who might equally be as close.

Fair point. Tampa would need to create their own space, then.

One part of me says that I like it, the other part says that getting karlsson will hurt us in the end...Thats too much to give for Karlsson and then signing him for that term will hinder us getting other players in the years to come.

Sure would like to see how the Jets fit EK for 11m into their 2019/20 lineup. To me that's an overpayment for EK, and does make the team that much better this year?. You really thin EK resigns with the Jets?
