Leafs in 2020 - Connor Brown Taken By Seattle

Created by: burla13

Description
No Need to Trade, use what is within.
It is amazing how easy it is to keep your good players when you have no bad contracts!
All of their good players signed and still have 6 million in cap space. If they keep that up and can replace pieces with younger players (Adam Brooks, SDA, Korskov) you trade your players and get picks, keep paying the stars. This will be a successful franchise for years to come.
Imagine Chicago without Brian Campbell contract.
LA without Brown Contract

4 stars, minus one star for no Ozhiganov in the lineup and signing marleau again.

I think as far as lines go I would like to see grundstrom with the Mathews line and johnsson with Tavares. Ithink in a more perfect world Hayman and Kapanen switch sides and kapanen plays with the Mathews line. The speed and zone entry matched up with a finisher like Matthews trailing the play would be crazy.

Great job of putting the team together from within just make sure to add another guy for your 23.

Would like to see how you brought all of them over the 2019 / 2020 season

So it is essentially the same but you have an extra 3.75 for Marleau, but I think next year Johnny gets another 1 year deal. 1, 1.5, he is an rfa no worry of him leaving, you also just say that money that Patty has this year half goes to you next year. Just be patient. So you save 2 of that there and Dermott only makes .863 (thank you ELC) meaning you would save 2.7 there. That is 4.7 that is with Marleau instead of the other 2. I personally think next year they go with a super cheap D, and that means they can keep everyone. Thank you Dubas fif getting rid of Martin's 2.5 now.

Reilly 5 Zaitsev 4.5
Dermott .863 Holl .675
Rosen .900 Liligren .894
Carrick 1.5? Oziganov 1

So 8 dmen only make 15.33
Freddy and Sparks make 5.8-5.9
That is 21 million for our end, leaving probably 61 million for the forwards which will be more than enough.
Some might argue bring a guy in which they could but with players coming and I think by 2019 Dermott will be a legit top 4. They don't have to, I didn't mention 2 Hart caliber players down the middle.
I am so confident that this team will be dominant for years to come.
Also remember they have all of their first round picks and i dont really see why they would be trading any.

This is one of my teams from the past. As a commenter wrote I dont even need to trade Horton because he can just be put on LTIR that year in that they have almost no bonus to carry over to 20-21.

Rather Than Connor Brown Being taken in the expansion draft why not trade him?

Agreed but sadly we have to lose someone and I think they will choose to protect Kap and Johnsson. I think they leave Zaitsev unprotected to save Reilly Dermott, if Zaitsev has a bounce back you protect him, if not you leave him there and either you keep a player you can use for a few years. Or gain 4.5 in cap. Personally I think Brown is a better piece, but who knows maybe this is the secret way to get rid of the Zaitsev contract and by 2020 you could argue the leafs wouldn't have 1 bad contract on the books which gives them incredible leverage for years to come.

Only sign players you want and keep everyone you want to keep. I have empathy honestly for people in Vancouver because I remember those days with awful decisions.

They haven't won anything yet but with Tavares and asset management, Kyle could quickly become the bar for gms in the 2000s in the NHL.

It's very exciting.
