You have us in cap trouble already and it's only 2018?!? And what's with this latest fad I've seen for trading Calvin Pickard for some piss-ant 5th-round draft pick? How does THAT fit into the overall plan? If you're mad at him from some other movie, then package him with one of our 80 d prospects and a 4th-round pick for somebody's second. There are about half a dozen teams who have unimpressive goaltender prospects in their farm systems.

Read above, plus, as long as Toronto's right side is a complete mess, this team isn't closer to winning the cup. They need one stay at home RD that can compliment Rielly/Gardiner. This team is all offense, no defense.

You're completely wrong. Completely, completely, completely wrong. It's "complement," not "compliment."

You know, the more I keep looking at Toronto's defense, and making apologies for it, the more I'm coming around to the idea of trading for just that sort of RD you've been talking about all along. Not that Anaheim would ever do this, but I would trade MM for M & M in a heartbeat -- Mitch Marner for Josh Manson and Brandon Montour. Too bad that the Ducks not only don't need an RW; they have some dead wood there.

Anaheim can't afford to lose those two either, otherwise it's Fowler Lindholm and minor leaguers. I've been saying it for a long time that Nylander is a good asset to move for a top pairing RD. Marner, Matthews, Kadri, Tavares, Hyman, Kapanen, Brown and Marleau is a fantastic offensive core. (Marleau only has a couple years left, but Bracco should be ready) I truly believe Toronto won't miss Nylander.

As explained, these signings really hurt the Leafs cap next year. How does Nash help. the Leafs and the Cup?

Oh, I was never suggesting that Anaheim would even THINK about this trade for a minute, but this is closer to what Toronto needs than what it has right now. I don't see the Maple Leafs being able to do any better than acquire somebody like Petrovic or Bortuzzo or the Nashville bottom pair or, as a young fellow just suggested, Ryan Pulock (I don't know if he's any good). I'm actually starting to believe that Toronto may be closer to missing the playoffs entirely (Gardiner continues to be soft, Zaitsev doesn't rebound, Dermott doesn't fulfill the promise he showed this year, Ozhiganov is a bust) rather than winning the Cup (the offense scores a ton, the defense holds its own, nobody gets injured, the backup goalie(s) win 10 games).
