Description

pens have 3 elite scoring lines . im toying with the idea of what a shutdown line would look like on the penguins. obviously would have to be the 4th line. I have Hagelin who has great defensive awareness & can keep up with mcdavid like speed or similar speed players - Sheahan & Grant who have great size and have solid defensive instincts, , can skate well, and they both can play center. i would feel comfortable with this line going up against mostly any teams top line. leaving Sid , geno and kessel to play against lesser talent and create more chances

Problem with using the 4th line as a shutdown line, is that you end up playing your 4th line way too much.

Your best bet for a shutdown line would probably be Hagelin-Brassard-Hornqvist. It would break up that whole Olympian on every line thing, but it it gives a good combination of defensive responsibility with legit top 6 offensive talent.

I have no problem with that 4th line combo. But only if the 3LW is a different player than Cullen.
They could play ZAR there, or maybe Simon.

Having Cullen on the third line weakens it greatly. I know everyone has a boner for Hornqvist, but he's not playing the 1st line. it'll be Sid and the kids. Sheehan with any combination of Hayes, Grant, Aston-Reese, or Simon, I'd rather see than Cullen.
