That's the trickest part of all this. I think there would have to be a little wink wink nudge nudge saying they'd flip him at the deadline to a place he wanted to go. As long as he agrees to keep the Habs off his 10 team list. . .

Thanks. I tried to be fair - I don't know if I've seen any other posts where the Habs offered performance based compensation to the other team. But to lose Spezza's cap hit and get Patches might be worth an D prospect and a pick.

I guess you missed that part, Where Spezza has stated numerous times that he has no desire to play in Canada. Especially on a bottom feeder Habs team.

Possibly but no way does Spezza waive his NMC for Montreal though.

One minor (actually not that minor) problem... You put Byron and Shaw on LTIR to fit this and didn't account for the fact that they kinda change this lineup. Also Spezza isn't even close to being a 1C, and if Patches moves it'll be for a young guy who actually wants to play in MTL

Agreed that when Shaw and Bryon come back there will be issues, but that's what we do mid season trades for, or use waivers for. And really the value in this for the Habs is Jakob Stenqvist and the pick.
