What do you think the Canucks should do? Do you agree with Linden and think that they should take a slow, methodical approach and actually rebuild? Or do you agree with Benning and think the Canucks should trade for bug name players and try to make the playoffs? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

We’re realistically 3-4 years from competing for the cup.

Year 1: Next year is a top 10 pick hopefully.
Year 2: Sneak in the playoffs but don’t go far
Year 3: Win a playoff round
Year 4: Profit

Do you think that the Canucks should try to make room for the young guys by reading the likes of Sutter & Gagner & Del Zotto?

Total outsider opinion since I don't follow the Canucks but have a good idea of their prospects. This team is very close to being able to contend. I think 1 more big player (I'm rooting for them to land Hughes, they already have his brother!) and they'll be in the playoffs in a few years. Even if they don't land Hughes, Petterson and Horvat are (will be in Petterson's case) very good top 6 centers. They've got a stud goalie prospect, Hughes will be their 1LD for a decade, and Boeser is an absolute monster (super envious by the way, I wanted him that year at the draft and we took Eriksson Ek...). All of these are pieces you need for a cup. I think they should still take it slow to be absolutely sure they have what they need, trading for a big name player isn't a great idea IMO.

Building and developing from within seems to be the way to go, as long as it is an organIZational philosophy. Adding the right pieces without disturbing the foundation or the structure can put a team over the top. In recent years, this was the case in Chicago (Sharp and especially Hossa come to mind), in LA (with Carter and Richards) and certainly in Pittsburgh with Kessel. No idea what’s in store for Vancouver but they do have some pieces in place.

As long as the Canucks don't go after players like Erik Karlsson they should be good I think they know they if they trade prospects and picks away that they lose most of their fan base
