Having to sign Panarin, Matthews, Marner, Gardiner, and Bobrovsky all in one offseason? Have fun with that

Toronto is working hard to get Nylander at a price that won't cause too many headaches in the future.

This guy,

Toronto should trade their starting goalie and a younger elite scoring winger, for a much more expensive goalie who is also older than Andersen and a disgruntled forward who will command significantly higher contract than Nylander will. Oh and they'll throw in a 1st round because planning for the future is for idiots.

This seems like a sound plan.

Obviously this was not done by a Leafs fan, or someone who understands that the NHL operates under a hard salary cap.

Toronto is trading away a "young elite scoring winger" and only gets back a "disgruntled forward"...nice

Panarin is great, that wasn't meant as an indictment on his talent, its more that the trade makes zero sense from pretty much any perspective beyond fantasy.

Panarin > Nylander (at this point in time) but he'll be demanding over 8 million for sure and is already closer to 30 than he is 20. Meaning panarin is playing his best hockey now, while Nylander still has all his best years a head of him.

Bobrovsky > Andersen but Andersen is beyond good enough and his contract isn't going to be insane like Bob's will be.

The Leafs are going to have a very challenging time with their contract next season, which I think very well could force them to ice an extremely young defence next season and still possibly lose one of Johnsson or Kapanen. If they have half decent years, they could ask for more than 3 million on a short term deal which would price one of them out of town.

So adding extra payroll for older players would only mean one of Matthews or Marner couldn't be afforded.

Hopefully this is more understandable now that I have left out all the sarcasm.

Not sure why " young elite scoring winger" is in quotes. He's exactly that. And since Panarin wants out, he is disgruntled. I'm sure you would feel the same if this completely stupid trade was with montreal. Price, mete(i'd pick a forward but none are comparable to Nylander) and your 1st.

A bridge deal hasn't even entered the conversation.

In my opinion Willy should get 8 years at a max of 7.5 mill per. I hope he signs a 8 year 7 mill deal though.

I think the two are close enough to say Andersen=Bob and I don’t care who gets upset by that. Bob is a year older and way more expensive moving forward same as panarin. This trade is ridiculous. Destroys our cap and addresses none of our needs.
