why would boston make that trade....at any point? They aren't exactly rebuilding. This is the team that beat the leafs in the playoffs last year right?

Sorry but why would Edmonton do this when they DON'T have the cap space to re-sign Nylander???? With the 2 players... 4.925 mil (just not enough)

Leafs would like the Eddy trade better if Russell remained an Oiler. For cap reasons, (and other reasons) the Oilers don't want overpay in salary for Nylander.

yes they can - puljujarvi is .925M, russell off the books opens 4M plus the LTIR space from sekera means they can sign him for over 10M this year. puljujarvis bonuses go away too, its actually a fine trade for edmonton

Toronto has about as much leverage in trading Nylander as Ottawa had in trading Karlsson. If things fall that far it's over.
They have roughly 28 days to sign him. If that doesn't happen, that last month he'll looking for a trade and contract talks will be over.
I'm sure there are teams in the KHL that would love to pay him well to come over for a year etc..
