As for the Mason thing, if you can't release him, you should ask about retiring him: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/goaltender-steve-mason-may-retire-10-nhl-seasons/
If you can't yet, perhaps you'll be able to put him on LTIR until he makes an official decision.

I can take him as a cap dump. I would like to keep Smith for now as he is a solid 3C for me but feel free to make an offer on Derek MacKenzie or Leo Komarov as some strong two way forwards.

Honestly I'm willing to negotiate. In a perfect world I'd love to just get a 1st + a cap dump dump for him, but that is a fantasy land these days.

You might want to double check your contract count. Make sure you don't have anyone you aren't supposed to. I think you're at 52 counting Mason, and you tried to claim Stone on top of that. (Previous GM's fault, not yours.)

If you could use Alzner, I could take an extra contract if needed. Let me know if you want to do something once you've checked into it.

Any update in regards to the Namestikov talks. Just waiting to hear what you would pay to acquire him. You also technically have Mason under contract I believe. I could eat his contract if it helped create a deal

How about this:

What do you think?
I think it works out for both of us. You get a Huge #1 scoring forward + Mascherin a C prospect who will fill in for the ones i am taking from you and a 2020 2nd just to even out the deal.
