adding Nino is a good move as he may be the best defensive forward of this generation. however adding Dumba doesn't help the defense, he's literally Gardiner without the good defense

I'd like to see Tor pay Marner and Matthews after this trade. Can you only have 15 players? Decent trade tho!

Horton will be on LTIR plus Hainey's salary gone will accommodate the 9 million needed for Marner. Gardiner and Marleau will also probably be gone in time for Matthew's payday. The increase in the cap will accommodate the rest of the players. Besides I dont think this trade is happening realistically and Nylander will get less than Niederreiter and Dumba combined

that is why Connor Brown is included in the trade, nylander > Dumba ... Neiderreiter > Brown ... but together ...

Too much coming from MN, Toronto would have to add. 1 for 1 straight up Dumba for Nylander is fair IMO, but if the Leafs really wanted Nino too they'd have to add much more than a depth player. This article came out 5 days ago using a model to rank the top 20 RW's in the league over the past 3 years and Nino came out as the 13th best RW. I'm not sure if I'd go quite that high, but I'd say he's at least a top 20 maybe top 15 RW throughout 3 years.

That's not entirely true. Dumba is fine in his own zone. I'd say he's about average for an NHL defenseman but he's improved immensely in the past 2 years. I think Spurgeon is a better fit in Toronto, he's a well above average defenseman that can literally do it all.

Replying to bring the rating a little closer to what it should be. Minnesota has zero reason to make this move.

And how is Marleau gone? Is he getting kidnapped by aliens? You understand he has a NMC and can veto any trade? I wish TMF would understand that you just can not dump Marleau because he has the NMC and he came here to win a cup. Unless he gets hurt which is doubtful because he has little history of injuries.

Well buddy, i guess you must have forgot but. Matthew's contract is up this year as is Marner's and Kapapen's,

Kapapen, Marner, Matthews, Lindholm, Leivo, Ennis, Johnson, Sparks, Gardiner, Hainsey, Ozhiganov and Maricin contracts are up at the end of this year. That is roughly 15.4 million plus 3 million in cap you have this year, plus let's say the cap.goes up 4 million. You have 22 million. If you pay Matthews 12 million and Marner 7 million that is 19 million gone. You have 7 players to sign, to make a 23 man roster, with 3 million, average 400k per player, well below the minimum salary.

So tell me how this works.

Where are you getting these numbers from? The Leafs have 30 million dollars in cap space according to cap friendly. Lets say the cap goes up by 4 million, and Hainsey, a likely departure gives 3 more million to work with. Thats 37 million dollars. 19 million for Matthews and Marner leaves 18 million for 7 players now. Gardiner, if he says gets 6, kapanen probably around 5 million, Johnson and leivo 1.5 each, and 4 million for the rest, and you can always let go of some guys and bring other minor leaguers up.
